Interesting and Volatile Handicap in 2016 on the Plains as Guz Malzahn is getting warm in his 4th year at Auburn. We take a look into how will the Tigers do this upcoming season.
Auburn Tigers 2016 Season Preview
John Franklin comes in to compete for the starting QB went to (FSU) then to junior college at East Mississippi JC. He will have to win the job from Jeremy Johnson and Sean White. I project Franklin will win the job because of his mobility, Guz Malzahn’s offense cannot run on all cylinders if the defense does not have to account for the QB in the zone read. The Tigers (+5000 at BetOnline to win National Championship) lost their two tackles and best O-linemen, Shon Coleman and Avery Young. Although have a few highly recruited youngsters to fill the void.
On the defensive side Kevin Steel comes in from LSU as the defensive coordinator taking over for Will Muschamp. D-Linemen Carl Lawson (Future 1st round draft pick) has been injured for a lot of his time in Auburn, but when healthy is a game changer. The thing is, Auburn's defensive line is so loaded with talent and depth this year that I expect we'll get back to a rotation like we saw in 2013 where 8-10 different linemen play in any number of combinations. The defensive line is dependent upon Carl Lawson and Montravius Adams. Injuries held this line back in 2015
Questions at Linebacker position. Must Replace the whole unit including Kris Frost (96 tackles in 2015) and Cassanova McKinzy (10 tackles for loss). The bad news for Auburn is that their starting linebackers were bad last year, the good news is that they’re all gone this year. Junior linebacker Tre’ Willams stands to start at the mike position and will have to rely on Illinois graduate transfer T.J. Neal to shore up the middle of this defense. The depth will be an issue as well as inexperience from underclassmen for the Tigers.
Auburn is in good shape at the safety position and 2015 All-SEC freshman Carlton Davis has solidified one of the starting positions at corner; they will need Ohio State transfer Jamel Dean to step up on the other side.
