Our college football consultant previews Wednesday’s game between Northern Illinois and Buffalo. Join us in reading this revealing betting article which culminates with his college football pick.

Midweek Football in the MAC
Buffalo will host Northern Illinois on Wednesday in a MAC nationally televised contest. The opening kickoff at UB Stadium is slated for 8:00 PM ET, and it will be aired by ESPNU. College football odds at Bookmaker list Northern Illinois as a 6-point favorite and the posted total is 55.5. Due to quirk in MAC scheduling, these teams haven’t met since 2012, and Northern Illinois walked away with a 45-3 home blowout win at that time. As a matter of fact, Northern Illinois has gone 8-0 versus Buffalo since the Bulls rejoined what was then called Division 1 football.

Dangerous Sandwich Game for Huskies
Northern Illinois is coming off a thrilling come from behind 32-27 win last week over previously unbeaten and nationally ranked Toledo.  The Huskies were able to overcome a 27-19 deficit with less than ten minutes to play in the game, and eventually scored a go ahead touchdown with only 1:59 remaining. The win improved them to 4-1 in conference play, and they find themselves just 1.0 game behind MAC West Division leader Western Michigan (5-0). Speaking of Western Michigan, they’ll be next on the docket following this contest at Buffalo. This certainly qualifies as a proverbial sandwich game for Northern Illinois, and makes this a very dangerous spot for them.

Riding a Wave of Momentum
The Buffalo Bulls will enter this contest on a three game winning streak. That successful stretch improved their overall record to 5-4, and they’re on the cusp of being a bowl eligible team. Last week they grinded out an ugly 18-17 win at Kent State. The Bulls trailed 17-6 in that contest, rallied for two fourth quarter touchdowns, and that included a go ahead score with only 0:58 to play. It was a huge win in regards to a potential bowl game invitation. Buffalo has gone 7-2 ATS in their last nine games as a conference home underdog.

Final Thoughts and Pick
Northern Illinois starting quarterback Drew Hare was lost for the season in last week’s win at Toledo after sustaining a leg injury. His replacement Ryan Graham did a tremendous job after entering the game, and was definitely instrumental in the final outcome. The question now becomes, how effective will he be on Wednesday when an opponent’s defense has an entire week to game plan against him? My educated guess is that it’ll be tougher sledding for him with all being considered. I’m going to have a small lean toward the home underdog for one of my college football picks this week.
