Our college football analyst breaks down the point spread on Friday’s game between TCU and SMU. Will SMU have enough juice to cover as better than a 3 touchdown home underdog? Go inside and get your college football picks ready.

Two teams located close in proximity will battle on Friday night when SMU hosts TCU. The opening kickoff at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas is slated for 8:00 PM ET. Current college football betting odds at 5Dimes shows TCU as a large 21.5-point road favorite, and the total is 64.5. These teams met a season ago at TCU, and the Horned Frogs prevailed 56-37 but failed to cover as a gargantuan 36.5-point favorite.

Encouraging Start for Mustangs
SMU is off to a 2-1 start, and it marks the first time since 2011 they’ve had a winning record after 3 games. Granted their wins have come over inferior opponents in North Texas and Liberty. Nevertheless, this is an SMU football program that was 3-23 during its preceding 26 games prior to this season. Any win after that period of futility is surely a positive, and bodes well for the confidence level of players going forward.

Uninspiring Horned Frogs
TCU is 2-1 thus far but has been less than impressive in doing so. They were nationally ranked in preseason polls, and have since dropped out of the Top 25 due to lackluster performances. They allowed 41 points and 461 yards to South Dakota State in their season-opening win and trailed that game late in the 3rd quarter before pulling away for an 18-point victory over its FCS foe. The following week, they were upset at home by Arkansas as a 10.0-point favorite, and then last Saturday, they failed to cover as a 24.5-point favorite during a 41-20 win over Iowa State. As a matter of fact, TCU is a money draining 0-3 ATS in 2016.

Final Take and Pick
This a prime spot for the large favorite to be looking ahead. TCU will be hosting Oklahoma next, and taking SMU lightly is more probable than unlikely.

Friday’s game will be a sizable measuring stick as to how far the SMU football program has come. Furthermore, playing at home, and in front of a nationally televised primetime audience will serve SMU well. I’ll have a small lean on the home underdog for one of my college football week 4 predictions.
