The odds favorite Tigers might be blinded by revenge, as The Owls have the potential to pull a road upset. Let's see what the books are dealing and get on the sharp side of this one.

 Temple Owls vs Memphis Tigers

After the Owls lost their opener to Army by the score of 28-13, the offense kicked into high gear and has averaged close to 40 points per game. Temple has gone 3-1 over that span and has covered the college football odds in all four contests. In their last outing, Temple hosted SMU and came away with an easy 45-20 victory. The Owls are 52nd in points scored, averaging 34.2 PPG, while their defense is allowing 20.4 points per game which place them 34th in the nation.

The Tigers have had no trouble beating up on the weaker teams as evidenced by their 77-3 thrashing of Bowling Green two weeks ago. But last week they took on a nationally ranked team in Ole Miss and the results were markedly different. Memphis saw their undefeated season evaporate with a 48-28 loss to the Rebels as 16-point road dogs.

Nevertheless, the Tigers have junior Riley Ferguson in the pocket, leading his team with 11 touchdown passes against five picks and guiding his team to the 20th most prolific passing attack in the nation, averaging 308 yards per game. Memphis is averaging a whopping 45.8 PPG (6th in the nation) while their defense has been stout as well, holding opponents to just 18.8 points per game (tied for 25th).

Turnovers will play a crucial role in this game. Both teams had costly turnovers last week but only Temple was able to overcome them. Both defenses play at a high level and I suspect the team with the more disciplined offense will win this game. The team that decides to throw across the field or make the wrong mistakes at the wrong time will ultimately fall in this AAC battle. Temple is 2-1 in this series straight up and 3-0 ATS. Last season the Owls cruised to a 31-12 win over the Tigers as 3½ point home dogs and this Thursday night the Owls are being installed as 10-point road dogs.

I don't believe the Owls are getting enough respect here as both teams have big offenses and stout defenses. Of course Memphis has the decided edge in the passing game but I believe the Owls' secondary is up for that challenge and own a decent enough pass rush to make life difficult for Memphis's Riley Ferguson. Let's include the road dog in our college football week 6 picks on Thursday night.
