College Football Week 12: Finally Back At Home, Vandy Will Cover +10 Vs. Ole Miss

South Carolina Gamecocks vs Vanderbilt Commodores

To reach a rare bowl game for the program, Vanderbilt must beat visiting Ole Miss on Saturday in SEC action and then win again next weekend. First things first: the Commodores are +10 against the Rebels on college football odds.

Ole Miss Rebels At Vanderbilt Commodores

The Commodores are facing long college football odds to become bowl eligible in head coach Derek Mason’s third year in Nashville as they will also be underdogs next week vs. Tennessee. The Rebels, meanwhile, are coming off arguably their best win of the 2016 campaign by going into College Station and knocking off Top-10 team Texas A&M. Saturday's matchup will be a clash of contrasting styles likely favoring the home underdog.

Vanderbilt is coming off two straight conference road games and has played four of its five away from home. The Vandy defense has been lights out at home but its last home game against a FBS opponent was all the way back on Oct. 1 against Florida when the Commodores held the Gators to 13 points on less than 100 yards rushing and only 144 yards passing. Alas, the Gators won 13-6.

Rebels coach Hugh Freeze has come under fire this year on the direction the Ole Miss program is heading. The Rebels endured one of if not the toughest early-season schedules in the nation in facing FSU and Alabama in the first three weeks of the season. They lost both. Here, Ole Miss is in an always tricky back end of an SEC conference road back-to back after surprising the Aggies. The QB from true freshman Shea Patterson was very impressive last week as the No. 1 overall recruit in the Class of 2016 made his collegiate debut due to an injury to starter Chad Kelly. The dual-threat Patterson must put up similar numbers if Ole Miss plans to become bowl eligible this weekend.

The hard-hitting Vandy defense returning home is something I am excited to watch. I expect the Commodores will pressure the inexperienced Patterson and force a few turnovers, which will be enough to keep this game within single digits. Thus I like the home side on my college football pick with the points. My NCAA year-to-date record is 12-12.  .
