Jim Harbaugh has beaten the football odds wherever he's coached. His Michigan Wolverines will get another crack at it this Saturday against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

If Jim Harbaugh is coaching, we're probably betting. That's been the right overall play pretty much since the first moment Harbaugh strapped on a headset. So when we took a gander at the NCAAF odds board and saw that Harbaugh's Michigan Wolverines were 27.5-point road faves this Saturday (7:00 p.m. ET, ESPN2) against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, did we soil our khakis out of fear? Heck no.

Okay, maybe a little. Four touchdowns is a lot to ask for. But our consensus reports show Michigan (5-0 SU, 3-2 ATS) at a solid 72 percent, bumping up the spread from –26 at the open. And Rutgers (2-3 SU and ATS) just got thumped 58-0 by Oklahoma State, dropping the cash as 39-point road dogs. Maybe we should stick with the program and put the Wolverines in our Week 6 college football picks.

The Knights Who Say No

Let's start with some math. ESPN's Football Power Index, free for all us netizens to use, projects Michigan to win Saturday's game 96.1 percent of the time. That translates to a money line of –2463 according to our old friend, the SBR Betting Odds Converter. The Wolverines are available at –5500 as we go to press. Not a lot of value there. Just to be sure, Wizard of Odds says a –2420 money line is about the same as a –24 point spread.

Aw, man. And we were about to show you how great Harbaugh has been to us here at the ranch:

2007 Stanford: 4-8 SU, 5-7 ATS
2008 Stanford: 5-7 SU, 7-5 ATS
2009 Stanford: 8-5 SU and ATS
2010 Stanford: 12-1 SU, 8-4-1 ATS
2011 49ers: 13-3 SU, 12-3-1 ATS
2012 49ers: 11-4 SU, 9-7 ATS
2013 49ers: 12-4 SU, 11-5 ATS
2014 49ers: 8-8 SU, 6-9-1 ATS
2015 Michigan: 10-3 SU, 7-6 ATS

What can we tell you; it took a little while to get Stanford's moribund football program off the ground, and Harbaugh's last year in the NFL was ruined by injuries and palace intrigue. Otherwise, he's been gold. Let's pay the premium and grab the Wolverines before they reach the magic number 28. Rutgers is an absolute mess right now, sitting at No. 110 out of 128 FSB teams on the F/+ efficiency charts at Football Outsiders; Michigan is fourth. May the prolate spheroid – and the power of the tan pants – be with you.
