Saturday evening features a pair of Pac-12 South rivals with UCLA traveling to the desert to take on the Arizona State Sun Devils. Let’s examine the college football odds and get on the winning side.

UCLA (3-2 SU, 1-4 ATS) vs. Arizona State (4-1 SU, 3-2 ATS) Prediction

The Bruins welcomed Arizona to the Rose Bowl last week and put a smile on the faces of all of those who backed them in their college football picks as 11-point home favorites. When the dust settled UCLA drew away to a 45-24 victory, largely due to the efforts of quarterback Josh Rosen. The sophomore signal caller had a total of four touchdowns (3 passing, 1 rushing) and tossed for 350 yards with no interceptions. Rosen now has a total of eight passing and two rushing touchdowns on the season with four picks. But it should be noted that three of those four interceptions came in the 31-24 opening week loss to Texas A&M.

Arizona State saw their undefeated season come to a halt last week as the college football odds makers installed them as nine-point road underdogs to USC and even that wasn’t enough of a head start. The Trojans went on to trounce the Sun Devils by the score of 41-20. ASU mustered 228 yards through the air and only 75 yards on the ground in the loss.

The line on this game has rocketed from an opener of UCLA -4 ½ to where it currently sits at -10 at most of the major offshore sportsbooks. The key injury was to ASU’s quarterback Manny Wilkins who was replaced by freshman Brady White after the starter went down in the second quarter of last week’s loss to the Trojans. But this sudden surge on UCLA is not only due to Wilkins’ absence but also that the line on the favorite was soft to begin with and the money poured in fast and furious on the Bruins.

I don’t see how the Sun Devils defense is going to contain Josh Rosen and the Bruins. UCLA is a pass-first offense and ranks 24th in the nation with an average of over 305 aerial yards per game. Conversely, the Sun Devils rank dead last in passing defense, allowing 396.4 per contest. Wow! Now that’s all the reason I need to back the road chalk in this one but to take it one step further, Brady White, ASU’s frosh replacement QB, will face the 24th ranked passing defense Saturday night that allows just 186 passing yards per game. Look for a blowout in this the desert.
