Here is a look at some duels where the underdog looks prime for an upset at money-line betting odds, giving your early-season bankrolls an even bigger boost.
Georgia Bulldogs at Clemson Tigers
Georgia and Clemson clash with both ranked in the top eight, leaving NCAAF odds makers listing the battle as a close contest. Early wagers on Georgia moved Mark Richt’s squad to be a two-point road favorite, while Clemson sits at a money line of plus 110 for our college football picks.
Clemson has started its last two seasons strong out of the gate, combining for a 13-1 spread record in its first seven games of each year. The stretches have included a pair of cashed tickets as underdogs, topping the Florida State Seminoles and Virginia Tech Hokies at the betting windows.
Free Pick: Clemson Tigers +110
LSU Tigers vs TCU Horned Frogs
The “Cowboys Classic” at the renamed AT&T Stadium in Arlington features LSU and TCU battling, with sports books listing the Tigers as a four-point favorites. LSU went 1-4 ATS in its five matchups last season that took place away from home, including SU defeats to the Florida Gators and Clemson Tigers.
TCU pulled off its share of upsets last year, notching road-dog victories against the Texas Longhorns, West Virginia Mountaineers and Baylor Bears. The Horned Frogs should look forward to the big stage of the “Jerry Dome” in this spot, cashing with an outright victory.
Free Pick: TCU Horned Frogs +155
Texas Tech opened as a six-point road favorite for this affair, matching the pair of in-state rivals for the first time since 2010. Early wagers on SMU dropped the number to 5 ½, while the Mustangs’ money line sits at plus 180.
SMU previously caught my attention as a home dog play here, making the Mustangs one of my early releases for Week 1. I am now adding an additional wager on June Jones’ squad to win straight up, with Texas Tech ripe for an upset in this spot compared to its typical ‘cupcake’ contests that have opened its last few seasons.
Free Pick: SMU Mustangs +180
UAB Blazers at Troy Trojans
UAB visits Troy in a rematch here of last year’s opener, which saw Troy come away with a 39-29 win as six-point road ‘chalk.’ This season’s duel has Troy favored again, while a money line of plus 170 is posted for UAB on the road.
UAB was in just one road spot last season as a short dog, resulting in a 27-19 victory over the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles. The Blazers should have some value again here and will be fueled for revenge after dropping last year’s matchup on their own turf.
