The Vanderbilt Commodores will travel to Houston this weekend, it will feature a special situation with plenty of motivation & fundamentals for the home-standing. Check a college football inside.

Vanderbilt vs. Houston (-12) 7:00PM ET ESPN2
SEC member Vandy visits CUSA member Houston for this 7:00 ET kick as televised by ESPN2. It’s never easy to lay double digits in a non-conference game to an SEC team. But, this one features a special situation with plenty of motivation and fundamentals for the home-standing Houston Cougars. These teams have only met once recently. But, many Houston Cougars well remember their recent Compass Bowl defeat at the hands of this Vandy team (41-24). Along with the fact that Houston gets to prove their mettle against an SEC foe, provides more motivation for the home team.

Vandy is a still struggling team under 2nd year HC Mason. In his first year, the Commodores dropped on offense from numbers of 30/366 to 17/288. Correspondingly, they went from 9 to 3 wins. This season, Vandy has matched those three wins, despite averaging just 18 PPG. The victories have come against Austin Peay, Mid-Tenn St. and last week, by a score of 10-3, against Missouri. With games against this Houston team, as well as Florida, Kentucky, A&M and Tennessee, the Coms realized there is little chance for a winning season. There could well be a letdown in this non-con game, following the first SEC victory in 2 years for HC Mason. Now, the Coms must take to the road for the 4th time in 5 weeks with a trip to Florida looming next Saturday. They are still unsettled at the signal caller spot, alternating QB Shurmur with QB McCrary. On a long-term basis, Vandy is 2-9 ATS following an outright underdog victory.

No such offensive conundrum for the Houston Cougars, who are an undefeated 7-0 SU, 5-2 ATS with a (+88) net AFP. The offensive is purring as a member of the 200 Club and Double Rusher. It is aided by an improved defense that allows 20/362 and has been a major reason why their (+13) net TO margin leads the nation. The perfectly balanced offense has been molded by 1st year HC Herman, the former OC at Baylor. It is piloted by outstanding QB Ward, who is ably abetted by his prime targets, WR Ayers and RB Farrow (head) who has been upgraded to “probable” at the time of this writing.

I invite you to join me this Saturday for this week’s selection on the college football pick on the Houston Cougars as the crusher of the week. At a fair price, the college football odds are in our favor as we lift the crusher of the week to 6-2 ATS.
