The Vanderbilt Commodores have been held in check offensively by the South Carolina Gamecocks in recent meetings, but things may change a bit this Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium.

Let’s take a closer look at the College Football odds for this Southeastern Conference matchup, with the opening kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Take a look at my College Football Picks: Opening Odds Report for Week 3.

Putting up some points

Vanderbilt has scored 73 points in its first two games, as it comes off a 38-3 victory over Austin Peay as 47-point home favorites last Saturday, while going UNDER the betting total of 54.5.

The Commodores have put up 35 or more points on the scoreboard in their last five contests dating back to the 2012 campaign, but have been held to 276 or fewer yards in their last seven meetings with the Gamecocks.

The South Carolina Gamecocks were expected to have one of the better defenses in the conference just because of the presence of defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, but the unit allowed a tone of yards in a 41-30 setback to the Georgia Bulldogs as three-point road underdogs in Week 2.

The Gamecocks are 2-5 ATS after allowing 450-plus yards in their previous game, with the OVER cashing in five of those seven contests.

Trying to beat a ranked team

College football handicappers may have an interest in backing the Commodores on the money line in a upset bid, but they haven’t beaten a ranked opponent since the 2008 campaign.

Vanderbilt is a money-making 10-5-1 ATS in its last 16 opportunities as a road underdog of 10.5 to 14 points.

Spurrier has owned this week’s opponent

There’s no doubt that the Gamecocks should be favored in this matchup, considering that Steve Spurrier has won 18 of his 20 games against the Commodores in his coaching career, but the tariff may be a bit high on the odds board.

South Carolina has also won 12 consecutive games at this venue, but is 2-2 ATS as favorites of 10.5 to 14 points the last two-plus seasons in Columbia.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Commodores with their  college football picks, as they won their last three conference road games, which will provide them confidence when going into one of the more hostile environments in the nation.
