The Texas A&M Aggies surged past the Vanderbilt Commodores with last week’s 56-24 victory, collecting as 17 ½-point home chalk. Kevin Sumlin’s squad remains in College Station for this Saturday’s NCAAF betting, meeting the UTEP Miners.
Aggies, Manziel crush Vandy
Texas A&M jumped out to an early 28-0 lead against the Commodores, while going on to notch 558 total yards. The Aggies cruised to their highest scoring in six games, despite committing five turnovers and seven penalties (35 yards).
Aggies quarterback Johnny Manziel found wide out Derel Walker for a pair of touchdowns, while adding two more scores through the air. “Johnny Football” finished with 305 passing yards, with Texas A&M’s offense moving the chains for 28 first downs.
The Aggies’ defense came away with three interceptions, including a “pick six” returned by junior Howard Matthews. OVER backers cashed with the contest’s combined 80 points jumping above the college football odds total of 70, while Matthews and Co. held Vanderbilt to a 3-for-14 mark in third-down conversions.
Miners blasted at Rice
UTEP logged a fifth straight loss in last week’s 45-7 setback to the Rice Owls, moving to 0-5 ATS in that stretch as a 19 ½-point road dog. The Miners were scorched for 524 total yards, giving up five unanswered touchdowns through the final three quarters.
Miners running back Aaron Jones marched for a season-high 186 rushing yards, making 29 carries out of the backfield. UTEP’s Blaire Sullivan had a scarce day of passing under center, reaching wide out Ian Hamilton for his side’s sole touchdown.
The lopsided affair’s combined 52 points dipped below the total of 59 ½, moving the UNDER to 2-0 in UTEP’s latest pair of duels. Sullivan threw one interception as part of his side’s three turnovers, while the Miners controlled the ball for 33 minutes of possession.
Back the Aggies as big ‘chalk’
Texas A&M opened as a hefty 45-point home favorite on The Greek’s NCAAF odds board, with early wagers on Manziel and Co. lifting the number a ‘hook’ to 45 ½. UTEP’s Ian Hamilton (15.8 YPC) is listed as “questionable” due to a leg injury.
I am laying the large digits here with Texas A&M as part of Saturday’s college football picks, looking for this to be out of reach early.
The Aggies have showed little mercy to inferior foes with a 2-1 ATS mark in the team’s trio of spots as a favorite of 27 ½ points or more. Manziel leads the Southeastern Conference in quarterback rating (181.9), while Aggies wide out Mike Evans has caught six touchdowns as part of 364 receiving yards in his squad’s last two weeks of action.
UTEP has allowed 52 PPG in its last two road spots, while overmatched in a 0-5 ATS mark through its last five battles with SEC foes. The Miners have put little pressure on their opposition with just six sacks all year, setting up a field day for “Johnny Football” to run up the score.
Texas A&M has a 5-0 spread record in its last five duels against foes with losing record, while going 5-2 ATS in its last seven spots following a victory of more than 20 points. Look for the Aggies to hang some large numbers, cruising in this "cupcake" clash before the season’s final stretch takes shape.
