Saturday’s NCAAF betting slate has Kliff Kingsbury’s unbeaten crew stepping up in class against the Oklahoma Sooners.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders rallied from behind in last week’s 37-27 triumph over the West Virginia Mountaineers, cashing as 4 ½-point road favorites.

Red Raiders, Webb edge WVU

Texas Tech erased a late 27-16 deficit with three unanswered touchdowns, capped off by a clinching 10-yard strike from quarterback Davis Webb to top target Jace Amaro. Webb finished with 462 passing yards, while guiding his side to 29 first downs in its 26 minutes of possession.

Texas Tech’s Kenny Williams reached paydirt twice from the backfield, uniting with mate DeAndre Washington for  89 yards on a combined 26 carries. Williams and Co. converted third downs at a 9-for-15 clip, while the duel’s combined 64 points jumped above the ‘total’ of 58.

The Red Raiders’ defense allowed 437 total yards, with 183 coming on the ground. Texas Tech’s Ryan Bustin hit 3-of-3 field goals as part of special teams, while mate Reginald Davis returned one of West Virginia’s five kickoffs for 52 yards.

Sooners surge past Kansas

The same day’s card saw Oklahoma come away with a 34-19 victory over the Kansas Jayhawks, while falling shy of collecting as a 21-point road favorite. Bob Stoops’ squad trailed by a 13-0 margin in the second quarter, piling on four touchdowns in the remaining 37 minutes to prevail.

Sooners quarterback Blake Bell completed 15-of-25 passes to notch 131 passing yards, finding mates Sterling Shepard and Jaz Reynolds for one score each. Bell’s backfield mate Damien Williams dashed for 56 yards on 15 carries, taking in the team’s final touchdown.

Oklahoma’s defense held the Jayhawks to a 2-for-11 mark in third-down conversions, giving up a stingy 201 total yards. The contest’s combined 53 points leaped OVER the ‘total’ of 49 ½ to cash for my followers, while the Sooners failed to log a takeaway.

Back the UNDER in Norman

Ladbrokes opened Oklahoma as a seven-point home favorite, while early wagers on Texas Tech dropped the number a ‘hook’ to 6 ½. The ‘total’ was first listed at 59, remaining unchanged in mixed NCAAF betting.

I am backing the UNDER between these rivals as part of Saturday’s college football picks, looking for a hard fought affair in this marquee duel.

Sooners defensive end Charles Tapper logged two sacks in last week’s battle with Kansas, moving the sophomore to rank third in the Big 12 Conference. Texas Tech’s defense has held its own in road spots, allowing 22 PPG, while its normally-explosive offense has put up just 22.7 PPG in its last three meetings with Oklahoma.

Oklahoma tightened up in last week’s second half, while allowing a sparse 11 PPG through its first four home dates. The UNDER is 8-1 in the Sooners’ last nine matchups that followed a spot of giving up less than 20 points, while going 4-1 in their most recent five contests against conference foes.

Texas Tech has had its share of fire power, but finds itself as an underdog for just the second time this year. The prior affair saw Webb and Co. squeak out a 20-10 victory against the TCU Horned Frogs, with the combined 30 points plunging UNDER the betting odds ‘total’ of 59 ½.

Look for UNDER backers to collect again here, adding to the wager’s 8-3 mark in Oklahoma’s last 11 home dates against rivals with winning road records.
