Notre Dame and Temple meet in a Marquee Matchup on Saturday. Find out why we like Temple for our Big Dog of the Week college football pick against Notre Dame.

Notre Dame (-11) vs. Temple, Saturday, October 31, 8:00 ET ABC
Notre Dame visits Temple for this 8:00 ET Saturday night showdown, as televised by ABC TV.  It is not often that a school like Temple gets the opportunity to perform in the bright lights of a Marquee Matchup such as this.  Be assured, the Owls will put their best foot forward in this contest.

Notre Dame enters at 6-1 SU, 5-2 ATS with a (+40) net AFP.  The Irish have played the far more difficult schedule, including national opponents, Texas, Virginia, Georgia Tech, Clemson and USC.  They have the bigger, stronger more talented athletes with better depth.  Led by 6th year HC Kelly, there are national title aspirations, as they have lost on only a missed 2 point conversion to undefeated Clemson.  They have also done an admirable job overcoming injuries to be a 200 Club offensive member.  There are outstanding offensive triplets with QB Kizer (65%), RB Prosise (7.1 YPR) and WR Fuller (22 YPC).  When handicapping any Notre Dame contest, however, you must be wary of the price point, as they are often overvalued.  Such is the case today, as Notre Dame lugs their 3-8 ATS record as road chalk against a Temple Owl team who is 18-10 ATS as home dog.

The Temple story has been nothing short of remarkable.  Under 3rd year HC Rhule, the Owls have gone from 2 wins in 2013 to 6 wins in 2014 to a perfect 7-0 SU record this season.  Credit continuing defensive improvement under Rhule as much of the reason for their success!  This year, the Owls sport Super D numbers that are among the best in the nation, including allowing less than 15 PPG.  Admittedly, the schedule has not been as stringent.  They defeated Penn State and Cincinnati the first 2 weeks, but were not challenged until last week at ECU when they overcame a 14-10 4th quarter deficit to pull out a (24-14) win.   That boosted the ATS mark to 5-2 with a (+69) net AFP.  How often do you see an undefeated 7-0 SU team with a (+69) AFP getting more points than they would have opening week?

I invite you to join me this week as we play the Super D of Temple as double digit home dog in a nationally televised game.  As such, they easily qualify as my college football pick of the week as Big Dog. At a double digit price, the college football odds are clearly in our favor.
