South Florida has come on strong late in the season. They are still in contention for the East division championship in the AAC. UCF is in a very different position. They are playing spoiler.

The South Florida Bulls are charging hard and fast. This team has picked up a lot of momentum over the past few weeks, as everything is finally clicking for a team which had a hard time solving the riddle of how to play good football. The Bulls beat Temple, 44-23, two weekends ago. They closed within one game of the Owls for the lead in the American Athletic Conference’s East division. Since South Florida has the head-to-head tiebreaker, Temple must maintain its one-game lead over the Bulls in order to win the division. If the Owls lose one more time this Saturday against Connecticut, a win by South Florida would give the Bulls a spot in the American Athletic Conference Championship Game against the winner of the upcoming game between Navy and Houston.

South Florida followed that 44-23 win over Temple with a 65-27 win over Cincinnati. The Bulls gained a 51-3 lead in this game, which is noteworthy enough. What’s even more historic about this game is that South Florida gained that 51-3 lead before halftime. It was as total an example of domination as anything seen in college football this season. That South Florida – team which was in the dumps a season ago – could do something like this is a sign of how much the program has grown.

UCF is not exactly a program which has grown. Quite the opposite. The Knights have crumbled this season, losing longtime head coach George O’Leary to retirement in the middle of the season and going downhill from there. The misery started in the first week of the season with a loss to Florida International. It got worse with a loss to Furman, a lower-division team. It has never recovered. This team is going to give it one more try, but answers should not be expected.

Line Moves
There are not college football odds for this game yet. The injury to UCF quarterback Justin Holman, mentioned below, is why there’s no line yet.

Notable Injuries
South Florida suspended offensive lineman Benjamin Knox. Defensive back Lamar Robbins and wide receiver Deangelo Antoine are dealing with legal problems and are out indefinitely as a result.  Defensive lineman Deadrin Senat is questionable with a knee injury.

UCF has offensive lineman Joey Grant out for the season with a shoulder injury. Defensive lineman Tony Guerad left the team. Wide receiver Jordan Akins is out for the season with an ACL injury. Running back William Stanback was dismissed from the team. Quarterback Justin Holman is questionable with an ankle injury. Wide receiver Tristan Payton is questionable with an undisclosed condition.

Handicapping The Game
South Florida is not just a better team; it is a better team playing hot right now. The Bulls are on fire, and nothing about UCF suggests that it will cool off USF in this one. Take South Florida with your college football picks.
