The Savannah State Tigers have been dominated by FBS foes recently, as they prepare to take on the Miami Hurricanes Saturday.

Let’s take a closer look at the college football odds for this non-conference matchup at Sun Life Stadium, with the opening kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN3.

Take a look at my College Football Picks: Opening Odds Report for Week 4.

Entering off a win

After losing its first two games by a 143-12 margin against Troy and Georgia Southern, Savannah State picked up a 27-20 victory over Fort Valley State last Saturday—despite being outgained by 182 yards in that affair.

Tigers head coach Earnest Wilson III wants his team to position itself to win throughout the game, continue to improve and emerge without any injuries heading into conference play.

Off a bye

Miami enjoyed a week off after its thrilling 21-16 victory over the Florida Gators as three-point home underdogs on Sept. 7, but it did lose the statistical battle by a sizable 201-yard margin in that contest.

The Hurricanes rank second nationally in red zone defense, as they’ve held opponents to one rushing touchdown and three field goals in eight trips inside the 20-yard line.

A large number

College football handicappers will quickly find that this point spread is the largest on the odds board Saturday, which has given the game some national notoriety in that respect.

Savannah State has been outscored by a 205-3 margin in three games against FBS teams—a number that could be much worse if its game against Florida State wasn’t suspended due to lightning with 8:59 remaining in the third quarter last year.

Scoring fast

All eight of Miami’s scoring drives during the 2013 campaign have taken less than three minutes, as head coach Al Golden prepares to dress up as a AP Top 25 team for the first time in his career.

Hurricanes quarterback Stephen Morris and running back Duke Johnson will have a field day against a defense that’s allowed 163 points in three games.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Hurricanes with their college football picks, as Golden needs to utilize this game to get his roster ready for the rest of the season, especially when coming off a bye week.
