The San Diego State Aztecs have played back-to-back overtime games, which could lead to a higher-scoring affair against the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels Saturday.

Let’s take a closer look at the college football betting lines for this Mountain West Conference matchup at Sam Boyd Stadium, with the opening kickoff scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU.

Streaking

San Diego State is in position to become just the 19th team to reach a bowl after starting a season 0-3 since 1980, as it enters this affair on a four-game winning streak, which includes a 34-31 overtime victory over the Boise State Broncos as seven-point home underdogs last Saturday.

The Aztecs have won 13 of their last 14 conference games, while they’ve also managed to secure a victory in the last three meetings in this series.

Quite a feat

UNLV became eligible to participate in the postseason for the first time since 2000, as the program looks to get to seven wins for the first time in 13 years.

The Runnin’ Rebels have some dynamic offensive weapons, including running back Tim Cornett and wide receiver Devante Davis, who are the first such combination in school history to reach the 1,000-yard mark in the same season.

Extra playing time

College football handicappers need to realize that the Aztecs may come up empty in this affair, as they’ve tied and FBS record in playing four overtime contests, but it’s important to point out that the program has won eight straight November games.

San Diego State has held 10 of its 11 opponents this season below their season scoring average and total offense average—something that I don’t see happening in this tough situation Saturday.

Ending the season

The Runnin’ Rebels are 0-6 SUATS in their last six season-ending games, which is certainly a cause for concern in backing the home underdogs in this spot.

UNLV has closed out its Mountain West schedule more times against San Diego State than any other school.

Prediction

I’m going to recommend that readers play the OVER for their college football picks, as I think both offenses will play very loose with each team already being bowl eligible, which will lead to a high-scoring affair against tired defensive units.
