The San Diego State Aztecs and New Mexico State Aggies are both without wins, while logging a combined 1-6 spread record. Saturday’s NCAAF action has the struggling squads clashing in Las Cruces, where the Aggies have given up 43 PPG in their first two home dates.

Aztecs edged at home

San Diego State’s latest setback came in last weekend’s 34-30 defeat to the Oregon State Beavers, while holding on to cash as a seven-point home dog. Aztecs quarterback Quinn Kaehler tossed a late interception, returned by Oregon State’s Steven Nelson for the deciding touchdown.

Kaehler finished with 251 passing yards, connecting 16-of-25 passes. San Diego State’s Colin Lockett was the junior’s favorite target, taking in an 80-yard touchdown strike as part of five catches.

Aztecs running back Adam Muema dashed for 71 yards on the ground (2.5 YPR), reaching the end zone once. San Diego State’s defense allowed Oregon State to convert 7-for-13 of its third downs, while the contest’s combined 64 points leaped OVER the ‘total’ of 55.

Aggies spanked by UCLA

New Mexico State was buried early in last Saturday’s 59-13 loss to the UCLA Bruins, falling short of collecting as a 44-point road dog. The Aggies trailed by a 45-0 deficit at the end of the third quarter, whole giving up a sizable 692 total yards.

New Mexico State’s quarterback duo of Andrew McDonald and King Davis united for 146 passing yards, with their offense moving the ball for 21 first downs. Aggies running back Brandon Betancourt rushed for 95 yards on 18 carries, taking in one touchdown from short range.

The Aggies were held to a 1-for-11 mark on third-down conversions, while safety Davis Cazares snagged a pair of interceptions on the other side of the ball. Both squads combined for 18 penalties, while the lopsided affair’s 72 points jumped OVER the ‘total’ of 66 ½.

Back the OVER in New Mexico

San Diego State opened as a 17 ½-point road favorite on The Greek’s college football odds board, with early wagers on New Mexico State driving the number south to 17. The ‘total’ was first set at 54, remaining unchanged after initial betting action.

When it comes to placing my college football picks, I am backing the OVER in this duel, looking for both defenses to continue giving up points.

San Diego State has allowed 38.7 PPG in its three contests, including season-high numbers in the team’s sole road date against the Ohio State Buckeyes with a 42-7 defeat. The Aztecs also improved their own fire power with three touchdowns in last week’s first half of action.

New Mexico State drops in class from last week’s blowout and should be able to notch some more octane here. Doug Martin’s squad has put up 21 PPG in its two home dates, while the OVER is 8-0 in the team’s last eight spots that followed a defeat of more than 20 points.

San Diego State came away with a 41-21 triumph in its last visit to Las Cruces, three years ago, with the duel’s 62 combined points flying OVER the ‘total’ of 50 ½. Look for OVER tickets to cash again here, adding to a 7-3 mark for the wager in New Mexico State’s last 10 affairs against Mountain West foes.
