The San Diego Aztecs will try to win their fourth consecutive game against the Air Force Falcons, as the two teams prepare to meet in a mid-week affair Thursday. Where should we place our football picks in this game?

Let’s take a closer look at the college football betting odds page for this Mountain West Conference matchup at Falcon Stadium, with the opening kickoff scheduled for 9:00 p.m. ET on the CBS Sports Network.

Quite a stretch

San Diego State will play its third game in 13 days, as it comes off back-to-back victories over Nevada and New Mexico State. The program is 6-2 SU and 5-3 ATS in October the last two-plus seasons.

The Aztecs have won their last eight conference games, while they’ve compiled a 12-4 SU record and 10-6 ATS mark in that situation since 2011.

Miserable season

Air Force is 1-5 SU and 2-4 ATS through its first six games, which has already made this a miserable season in Colorado Springs, but the government shutdown has added to the stress that the program is feeling.

The Falcons have compiled a 19-12 SU all-time record in this series, including an 11-5 mark when playing at home.

College football handicappers will find that the ‘Over’ is 5-1 in the last six meetings between these two teams when playing at this venue.

Take care of the football

In my opinion, the only way San Diego State covers the number in this game is if it takes care of the football, as it enters Week 7 with a minus-five turnover margin.

San Diego State is 5-0 SU and 2-3 ATS as road favorites over the last two-plus seasons—clearly demonstrating that it can win in this situation, but has to have everything go right in order to cover the point spread.

Musical chairs under center

The Falcons are one of just three teams nationally to start three different quarterbacks this season, which is the main reason some sports bettors may elect to play against the program.

Air Force doesn’t throw the ball very often due to its triple-option attack, but consistent play under center is paramount for this unique offense to move the football regularly.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Falcons in their sports picks for this game, as they’ve never lost four consecutive meetings in this series, while the Aztecs may start feeling the effects of playing a lot of football recently in the second half.

Don’t go nuts here, as Air Force has clearly been affected by the political atmosphere in Washington.
