College Football Pick: Over 54.5
Best Line Offered: at Heritage

San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl
Boise State (8-4) will meet Northern Illinois (8-5) in the 2015 Poinsettia Bowl on Wednesday 12/23. The opening kickoff at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, California is slated for 4:30 PM ET. Current (12/13) College Football Betting Odds at Heritage indicates that Boise State is an 8.0 point favorite, and the posted total is 54.0.

Fading Broncos
Boise State began the season 5-1 and was raked in the Top 25 of the AP Poll. They then faced Utah State, and were crushed 52-26 as a 7.5 point road favorite. They inexplicably committed 8 turnovers in that loss while only forcing one by Utah State. That began a 3-3 finish to the regular season which failed to see them win a game against an opponent with a winning record. The Broncos defense really faded in their final four games. They allowed 29.5 points and 495.3 yards per contest during that stretch. On a positive note, their offense averaged 37.7 points and 488.6 yards per game during regular season action.

Solid MAC Football Program
Despite losing their previous two games, Northern Illinois has gone a superb 51-12 (.810) in its last 63 contests. They’ve advanced to MAC Championship Game six years in a row, and won that title on three occasions. When I’ve studied the Huskies in 2015, my personal eye test leads me to believe that this may be their weakest team during its recent successful run. However, the Huskies program has certainly set a gold standard, and that’s by no means a slight to this 2015 team. They’re coming off a 34-14 loss to Bowling Green University in the conference title game. Similar to their Poinsettia Bowl opponent, the Huskies defense struggled during their last five games. They allowed an average of 27.2 points and 454.0 yards per contest during that period. Contrarily, their offense has averaged an impressive 33.0 points and 426.7 yards per game this season.

Final Thought and Pick
This has the ear marks of a highly entertaining contest with plenty of points to be scored. One of my College Football Picks will emulate that projection.
