We’re going to examine what appears to be a mismatch game between Miami-Ohio & Wisconsin. Go inside to get all of our analysis pertaining to this matchup, and it culminates with a point spread pick.
Badgers to Entertain Redhawks on Saturday
Wisconsin will host Miami-Ohio on Saturday at Camp Randall Stadium with the opening kickoff slated for 12:00 PM ET. According to current college football odds, Wisconsin is between a 32.0 to 33.0 point favorite, and the posted total ranges from 51.5 to 52.0.
Any Win is a Good Win
Miami-Ohio opened their season with a much needed 26-7 home win over Presbyterian, and covered as a 13.5 point favorite. Miami was able to rack up 466 yards of total offense in that win. Starting quarterback Drew Klummer turned in a stellar performance by going 14-of-19 passing for 255 yards, and averaged an outstanding 13.4 yards per pass attempt. Despite the victory coming against a FCS opponent, it still denotes a positive sign for a football program that won for just the third time in their last twenty-nine games. Miami has also gone an abysmal 1-22 in their previous twenty-three away games, including losing seventeen in a row on the road. As a matter of fact, their last road win came on 9/29/2012 at Akron by the score of 56-49.
Lack of Competitiveness in Loss to Alabama
It’s not so much that Wisconsin suffered a 35-17 loss to Alabama in last Saturday’s season opener, the manner in how they performed was extremely disappointing. Let’s face it the Badgers were a 12.0 point underdog for a reason against the #2 ranked team in the country. However, they were outgained by a whopping 234 yards in the contest. Many experts believed Wisconsin could give Alabama all they can handle and then some. After all, the Badgers defense was expected to be one of the best in the country this year, while Alabama’s offense had several question marks heading into this season. Alabama was able to amass 502 yards of total offense versus the Badgers highly touted defense, and that included 238 rushing yards.
The opposition both teams faced last week was on opposite sides of the college football spectrum. That being said one has to be careful when assessing those results. Wisconsin is clearly a far superior team than Miami-Ohio. The question then becomes, can they cover this large number, and how motivated will they actually be. Personally this is a game I won’t be wagering on due to its massive point spread. If you put the proverbial gun to my head, I would have the tiniest of leans toward the underdog as one of my college football picks.
College Football Pick: Play on Miami-Ohio +33.0 (-105) at Pinnacle.
