Ohio State wants to begin to play at a higher level, and what better time for that than the start of Big Ten play against Indiana? What's the right college football pick for this game?

The Ohio State Buckeyes have not really played their best on offense this season. They’ve been very good on defense, but that half of the team has kept the Buckeyes above water so far in September. Ohio State should respect Indiana, since the Hoosiers are 4-0 for the first time in a while. Indiana is winning the close games it didn’t win last year. This could make Saturday’s game a lot more interesting than people think.

The Buckeyes are getting a little bit better. Their defense is one of the very best in the country, and that didn’t change in a relatively easy win over Western Michigan this past Saturday. Ohio State does not have problems when it comes to that side of the line of scrimmage. It’s about the offense, and on Saturday, while everything wasn’t tremendous, it was certainly a lot better than it had been the week before against Northern Illinois, when Ohio State needed a pick-six from its defense to get a 20-13 win over a Mid-American Conference team. Cardale Jones threw the ball well in his latest attempt to secure the quarterback position, which has been shared with J.T. Barrett. If Jones can get into a groove, the Ohio State team we saw in the College Football Playoff could be the team we see against Indiana.

Indiana has been a pleasant surprise, although everyone should realize that the Hoosiers have generally played weak teams. The only bowl team from last season they’ve played so far this year was Western Kentucky. That was a really good win. The other three wins were certainly better than losses, but Wake Forest, Southern Illinois, and Florida International should be beaten by a Big Ten team. The Hoosiers’ four wins have come by a grand total of 25 points. They have been just good enough on defense to stay in and ultimately win games. They will be tested, obviously, by what Ohio State has to offer.

Line Moves
The college football odds started with Ohio State as a 19.5-point choice, but the line has jumped up to 21 points. There is clearly a belief that Indiana has been living right and is due for a course correction. There is also a belief that Ohio State is ready to explode in this game.

Notable Injuries
The Buckeyes have defensive back Damon Webb out for the season with a suspension. Wide receiver Parris Campbell is questionable for this game with a knee injury. Running back Mike Weber is questionable with a knee injury as well.

The Hoosiers have defensive back Chase Dutra listed as questionable for this game for undisclosed reasons. Wide receiver Isaac James is questionable with a shoulder injury. Wide receiver Dominique Booth is out indefinitely for undisclosed reasons.

Handicapping The Game
The main thing to realize here is that Indiana has been playing lower level competition. Ohio State’s offense is not going to remain so-so for the whole season. It’s a big line but take the Buckeyes with your college football picks.
