Tuesday night ESPN will televise the Boca Raton Bowl between the Memphis Tigers and Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. Let's revisit this matchup, as well as the college football odds, and get on the sharp side.

Sharps Honing In On Hilltoppers

I wrote about the Boca Bowl on December 7th and at that time I was able to get a tasty number on the favorites, the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. BetOnline had the most favorite friendly line and I pounced on it, advising my readers to do the same as they were hanging the Hilltoppers as four-point neutral-site chalk. I expounded the virtues of the lethal pass-catch combination of quarterback Mike White to superstar receiver Taywan Taylor that has contributed mightily to Western Kentucky's status as the 5th ranked passing team in the nation.

Alas, it appears that everyone else caught up with that information and has decided to include the Hilltoppers in their college football picks as well. As of this Sunday morning writing the line has soared to as high as six in many offshore shops. Unfortunately, Western Kentucky -4 is long gone and impossible to find as of this juncture.

Therefore, it may make more sense to include them in a two-team teaser with another team in another bowl down the road. If you are a Clemson fan there are college football odds makers like Bookmaker and BetOnline that are dealing the Tigers as 3 ½ -point underdogs to Ohio State in the College Football Playoff semi-final. Hooking up a teaser with Western Kentucky at a pick and Clemson +9 ½ doesn't look too shabby, does it?

Coaching Changes For WKU And Conference USA

Jeff Brohm will not be on the sidelines when his Hilltoppers take the field against Memphis because Purdue has hired the offensive guru to bring a revival to the Boilermakers' offensive attack. Therefore, defensive coordinator Nick Holt will take the reigns as head coach in the Boca Raton Bowl but will cede those duties to former Notre Dame offensive coordinator Mike Sanford who was hired by WKU to coach next season.

But the biggest coaching news emanating from Conference USA was Florida Atlantic's coup of former Alabama offensive coordinator, Lane Kiffin, to fill their head coaching vacancy. The Boca Bowl will be played at FAU Stadium, home of WKU's chief Conference USA rival.

In what might be one of the more innocuous edges for Western Kentucky, it should be noted that 21 players on their roster hail from Florida, two of whom lived in Palm Beach County. if there's no place like home then a good section of Hilltoppers will be quite comfortable traveling back to the Sunshine State for this meeting with the Memphis Tigers.
