The Tigers took care of business in their first game of the season and are widely expected to repeat that performance on the road this weekend. Let's overview the college football betting lines.
As of now, the Tigers are favored by 10.5 points across the board, which is down from an opening number that was right around 13 points. Nonetheless, Missouri is the clear-cut favorite on the college football odds board.
A total of 58.5 points can be found out there for the taking right now. The Red Wolves were just completed annihilated by USC, allowing 55 points, while Missouri had little trouble scooting past Southeast Missouri State at home in their regular season opener. If those games are anything to go by, it'll be the Tigers that are scoring most of the points this weekend.
Arkansas State Red Wolves
Everyone pretty much figured it would be a long day at the office for the Red Wolves on the road against the mighty USC Trojans in their regular season opener. That's exactly what ended up happening, as Arkansas State was trounced 55-6. They coughed up over 500 yards of total offense to the Trojans and failed to reach the end zone themselves in the blowout defeat.
The quarterback situation was a total mess for the Red Wolves, and it didn't matter that they managed 208 rushing yards against USC; this game was over early on and Arkansas State never really had a chance.
It had to be a demoralizing loss for the Red Wolves, who were hopeful they could at least be competitive despite the difficult matchup. They'll now have to take on another ranked opponent this weekend, but the good news is they'll be at home this time around, and the College Football Odds aren't nearly as stacked against them.
As predicted, the Tigers had no problems dispatching Southeast Missouri State at home last weekend. They were heavy favorites coming in and showed up with a dominant performance on both sides of the ball on their way to the 34-3 triumph.
QB Maty Mauk completed 12-of-22 passes for 188 yards with two touchdowns and one interception, with Drew Lock the coming on and going 6-of-10 for 138 yards and a score himself when the game was already out of reach. Tyler Hunt, J'Mon Moore and Nate Brown all had 69+ receiving yards along with a touchdown in the dominant win, which more than made up for a disappointing showing from the Missouri run game, one that totaled just 88 yards on 33 carries.
With that emphatic win, the Tigers moved up to #21 in both the AP and Coaches polls, and assuming they take care of business this week, they should be able to creep into the Top 20 ahead of what should be a trickier matchup at home versus Connecticut, followed by a road date at Kentucky. Missouri would be wise to work out any kinks they have now before conference play kicks off.
NCAA Football Pick
After what we saw during opening week, it's going to be hard for us to put any faith in Arkansas State.
So, with our College Football Picks, we're going to back the Tigers to make it two wins in a row (convincing wins at that), as they've played very well on the road in recent seasons and should be able to keep that trend alive against a Red Wolves team that crapped the bed against USC last week.
Missouri continues to be underrated in the grand scheme of things, despite proving they belong in one of the toughest conference out there. We like the Tigers to keep proving the haters wrong by winning by at least 11 points here on the road on Saturday, as their balance should prove too much for the Red Wolves.
