Iowa Hawkeyes Players

Large Chalk on Michigan as they travel to Iowa to face the Hawkeyes. No surprise to this bureau, if another emotional performance by a Saturday Night home dog gets the money.

Michigan (-21) vs Iowa 8:00 ET ABC TV

Each week in this spot, I isolate an ICE GAME.  It features a team playing with (I)ntensity and (C)onviction who performs with (E)xecution. Such qualities certainly characterize the Iowa Hawkeyes, who consistently prepare to the best of their abilities each week under 18th year HC Ferentz. Playing against the best defensive team in the country and league leader (undefeated Michigan), they will need to do all that and more after their embarrassing outings in their previous 2 games against Penn St. and Wisconsin.

This is an Iowa team who, in no small part due to a beneficial schedule, won their first 12 games of 2015. Since that time, this team has gone 5-6 SU, 4-7 ATS, including the last 2 weeks in a 17-9 loss to Wisconsin on this field (outgained 423-236) and a 41-14 loss at Penn St. last week (outgained 599 - 234). In each of those contests, they were double rushed by their opponent. On a field where they are recently 9-20 ATS, including 1 - 4 ATS this year, there is little love for the Hawkeyes today.

But, it doesn’t take much for even the most casual College Football fan to tune into the Saturday Night primetime games, where the emotion of the home field far exceeds the linemaker’s home field advantage. Think back to the last month. Wisconsin as (+10) takes Ohio St. to OT. Penn St. as (+19) wins on a blocked kick in the closing minute. Florida St. as (+4) holds on to cover against a Clemson comeback. And last week, LSU as (+7) takes No.1 Alabama into the 4th quarter of a scoreless game. Is there any doubt that the emotion of College Football will be on full display this Saturday at Kinnick Stadium? On our side is the value of a (-139) AFP favoring Iowa (Hawkeyes have failed by a -41 net points), while Michigan has covered by a (+98) net points. That AFP differential has resulted in a line which provides us more than 3 TDs of value in today’s contest. Scared of fading undefeated 9-0 SU Michigan? Note that the Wolves are just 12-10 ATS under Harbaugh, including 4-4 ATS on the road.
