The Miami Hurricanes will hit the road for the first time in 2013, as they take on the South Florida Bulls Saturday.

Life on the road

Miami has compiled a 3-0 SU and 2-1 ATS record due to its defense allowing only three touchdowns this season, as it prepares to hit the road for the first time during 2013, while going UNDER the college football odds total in two of those contests.

The Hurricanes are 5-5 SU and 8-2 ATS on the road since 2010—going above the betting total in eight of those opportunities.

A new era

South Florida is 0-3 SU and 1-2 ATS in its first three games under head coach Willie Taggert, but its leader is dangerous in this role—covering the number in his last 12 games as an underdog on the sidelines.

The Bulls have allowed 102 points this season, but only 67 have come against the defense, as three quarterbacks that have seen significant action on the gridiron have each led to a defensive touchdown for their opponent.

Causing turnovers

College football handicappers should never back a road favorite if that squad is unable to force opponents into making mistakes, but that’s certainly not the case in this matchup, as the Hurricanes enter with a plus-eight turnover margin.

Miami is also tied for fourth in the country in red zone defense—a statistic that gains strength when playing a team that has scored just 37 points this season.

Going against a ranked foe

The Bulls have compiled a 9-16 SU record versus FBS ranked opponents since 2000, which includes a 5-8 mark at home.

South Florida has dropped four of its five all-time meetings with Miami, with the road team grabbing the cash in all but one of those affairs.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Hurricanes for our College Football Picks in this spot, as they possess a high-powered offense with quarterback Stephen Morris and running back Duke Johnson, while they may also score on the defensive end in this affair.
