The Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders will play their annual Blackout game Thursday, as they prepare to host the Marshall Thundering Herd at Floyd Stadium. What are our favorite college football betting options for this mid-week matchup?

Let’s take a closer look at the college football odds for this Conference USA matchup, with the opening kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on Fox Sports 1.

Sitting atop the standings

Marshall is 4-2 SUATS through six games this season, as it sits atop the Conference USA East Division standings, while going UNDER the betting total in five of six opportunities.

The Thundering Herd are led by talented quarterback Rakeem Cato, who has thrown a touchdown in 24 consecutive games.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the Thundering Herd are 3-1 SUATS following a bye week.

Losing the battle

Middle Tennessee State will try to snap a three-game losing streak Thursday, while it has been out-gained by at least 57 yards in its last five contests.

The Blue Raiders are coming off a much-needed bye week, as the roster has been ravaged by injuries, but the team may enter this affair rejuvenated due to being featured on national television.

A week off

College football handicappers will find that the Thundering Herd are 3-1 SUATS following a bye week since 2011, with no clear edge in terms of the betting total (2-2 Over/Under).

Marshall has won both prior meeting against Middle Tennessee State, but the last occurrence came in 1992.

Forcing turnovers

There’s no question that the Blue Raiders have struggled mightily at times during the 2013 campaign, but they’ve forced 20 turnovers through seven games—ranking second nationally in that category.

Over the last 12 games dating back to last season, Thursday’s host has come up with 19 interceptions—an important statistic when facing a signal-caller of Cato’s caliber.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Blue Raiders with their college football picks, as the Thundering Herd are 0-4-1 ATS as road favorites since 2011.
