The college football season has advanced into the third week of November, and the matchups between offenses and defenses always remain intriguing. Here are three O/U for Saturday.

Indiana Hoosiers vs. Maryland Terrapins
This is a game in which the bad pass defense goes up against the bad pass offense. Indiana has a terrible pass defense which got shredded by Michigan last week, but Maryland quarterbacks threw five interceptions last weekend in a loss to Michigan State. Maryland’s offense is not equipped to hurt Indiana’s biggest defensive liability. That’s how a game goes to the under. Take the under for your college football picks.

Duke Blue Devils vs. Virginia Cavaliers
The big thing to note in this game is that neither team has a very good quarterback. Thomas Sirk has struggled the whole season as a passer for Duke. His statistics were inflated by a four-overtime game against Virginia Tech. Take away that one game, and his touchdown total would be a lot lower. Sirk has not been able to complete important passes when the Blue Devils have needed him to be at his best. Duke gets a good amount of production from its running game, but its passing game leaves the offense limited, and therefore unable to score very high point totals most weeks, especially against ACC defenses.

Virginia has also struggled at quarterback this season. The Cavaliers lost Greyson Lambert to Georgia in the offseason, due to a transfer. They have been behind the curve at the quarterback spot for virtually all of the season. The Cavaliers have not had to play Clemson or Florida State in the ACC. If they had, their offensive numbers and averages would look a lot worse than they already do. Neither team appears ready to score much more than 23 or 24 points. This game should go no higher than around 50 total points, so under the college football odds in what should be a physical, defense-dominated game.

California Golden Bears vs. Stanford Cardinal
It’s been a difficult week for Stanford. The loss to Oregon last Saturday was bad enough, but defensive back Brandon Simmons got injured, leaving the Cardinal secondary in a very thin and depleted state against Cal quarterback Jared Goff, who has struggled over the past month but has an opportunity to play a very good game here against a vulnerable defense in a rivalry game. California’s defense gave up huge totals of yards to UCLA and Oregon and has steadily declined over the past several weeks. The Golden Bears have had problems tackling. They’ve had problems with tempo-based offenses. They’ve had problems on third downs, getting off the field. They’ve had problems in just about every way imaginable. Stanford has a high-quality offense, one which should score a ton of points as long as it avoids the fumbles which came back to haunt the Cardinal against Oregon. Take the over here. This game should get into the high 30s, maybe even the low 40s.
