The Kansas St. Wildcats travel to Stillwater, Oklahoma to take on the Oklahoma St. Cowboys on Saturday with kickoff slated for 3:30 PM ET.

CFB Preview

According to the current college football betting odds Oklahoma St. is a 14.5-point home favorite. This number opened at 15.0 and 77% of the early public money wagered went on the home favorite. Both of these teams will be seeking their first Big-12 win of 2013 after opening their conference schedules with a loss.

Rebounding from a Shocker

Oklahoma St. was stunned last Saturday at West Virginia falling to the Mountaineers 30-21 as a 19.5-point favorite. The loss dropped the Cowboys to 3-1 on the season. The Cowboys have shown very good recuperative powers rebounding from a loss in recent years especially when they’re installed as a favorite. As a favorite of 5.0 or more following a straight up loss the Cowboys have won their last 9 in that role and covered 8 of the 9. The average margin of victory in those 9 contests was a whopping 26.2 points per game. The Cowboys were plagued by 3 turnovers in last week’s loss in addition to allowing the Mountaineers to accumulate 320 yards in the air. Oklahoma St. continues to display a dynamic pass offense averaging 314.2 yards per game which is good for 17th best in the country. The effective passing game has been a staple since Mike Gundy has taken over as head coach in Stillwater.

Not Wild About the Wildcats

Kansas St. comes off a much needed week of rest after a 31-21 loss at Texas in their previous game. The loss evened the Wildcats record at 2-2 on the season. They opened the 2013 campaign with a stunning loss at home as a 12.5-point favorite to North Dakota St. 24-21. They were able to defeat UL-Lafayette and Massachusetts in their following 2-games in fairly convincing fashion. This isn’t one of Bill Snyder’s stronger teams at Kansas St. They’re very average on both sides of the ball and have received some erratic quarterback play from junior Jake Waters thus far.

Final Analysis

With Waters struggling at quarterback for the Wildcats they need to lean heavily on their running game. That will be a problem versus a Cowboys defense that’s been stout versus the run this season. Kansas St. was able to put up just 21-points in their previous game versus a Texas defense that had been horrible entering that contest. College football ATS betting recent history has shown that a double-digit home favorite that comes off an away double-digit favorite straight up loss has fared very well. That tendency will continue to hold up in this contest.
