The Iowa State Cyclones and Tulsa Golden Hurricane have gotten to know each other pretty well since last season, so does that give sports bettors an advantage when placing their sports picks Thursday night?

Let’s take a closer look at the college football odds for this non-conference affair at H.A. Chapman Stadium, with the opening kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on Fox Sports 1.

Take a look at my College Football Picks: Opening Odds Report for Week 5.

Off another bye

Iowa State is 0-2 SUATS through two games this season, which includes a 27-21 defeat to the Iowa Hawkeyes as 1.5-point home underdogs on Sept. 14, while going OVER the betting total of 45.5.

The Cyclonces are 1-5 SUATS after a bye week since 2011, with the UNDER going 4-2 in that situation.

Falling into a pattern

Tulsa has alternated wins and losses over its first three games, as it looks to bounce back from a 51-20 blowout defeat to the Oklahoma Sooners as 23-point road underdogs  in Week 3, while going OVER the betting total for a second consecutive contest.

The Golden Hurricane are 3-0 SUATS as home favorites of three or fewer points over the last two-plus seasons, with the UNDER going 2-1 in those opportunities.

Life on the road

College football handicappers will find that the Cyclones are 8-12 SU on the road under head coach Paul Rhoads, but they’ve managed to win three of their four openers in that situation.

Iowa State also possesses the nation’s third-longest streak of not giving up 36-plus points in a game during regulation—a statistic that points directly at playing the UNDER when looking over

Youth movement

Both of these teams have played numerous first-time starts, but Tulsa has the 11th-most sophomores and freshman on its two-deep depth chart in the nation.

There’s no doubt that the Golden Hurricane will need to ride senior running back Trey Watts to victory, as he enters with 2,406 rushing and 913 receiving yards in his career.

I’m going to recommend that readers look at the total with their college football picks, as the UNDER is 7-2 in the Golden Hurricane’s last nine home games, while the Cyclones have fallen below the number in 13 of their last 18 affairs away from Ames.
