We’re going to examine the Friday night college football contest between Houston and Tulane. Go inside to read this insightful betting preview article that includes our college football pick.

Friday Night Lights in the AAC
Tulane hosts #24 Houston on Friday in an American Athletic Association game. The opening kickoff is slated for 9:00 PM ET, and the game will be aired on ESPNU. According to current (10/15) college football odds, Houston is a 19-point favorite, and the posted total is 58.5. In last year’s meeting between these teams, Tulane pulled off a huge 31-24 upset as a 17-point road underdog.

Picture Perfect for Cougars
Houston has begun this 2015 season with five straight wins. That impressive start has allowed them to crack the “AP Top 25”. Their most impressive of those wins was a 34-13 upset of Louisville as a 13-point road underdog. In that contest, they torched one of the better defensive units in the country for 462 yards of total offense. That feat was certainly no fluke, considering they’ve averaged 46.4 points and 574.6 yards of total offense per game. Houston has also forced 14 takeaways, and they’re a stellar +10 in turnover differential during its first five games.

What About Tulane
Tulane enters this week with a 2-3 record, and that includes 1-1 in AAC action. Their only two wins have come against Maine who plays at the FCS level, and versus winless Central Florida. Last week they suffered a 49-10 blowout loss to undefeated Temple. The Green Wave is allowing an average of 37.8 points and 419.8 yards per game. Their offense has struggled for most of the early going, evidenced by gaining just 248 yards or less in each of their three losses. Tulane hasn’t defeated a Top 25 team since 1984 when they knocked off then #19 Vanderbilt.

Final Analysis
Let me make this perfectly clear from the get go. This isn’t a game that I’ll personally be wagering on. Quite frankly, I hate contests such as these, and let me tell you why. I try at all costs to avoid wagering on college football road favorites, and especially when they’re nearly a three touchdown chalk like Houston is. My rule of thumb when selecting an underdog is simple, that team must have a realistic chance of winning the game outright. I can’t make that case for Tulane. As a result, I’ll take the road favorite as the lesser of two evils for one of my college football picks, and that’s strictly based solely on professional intuition.
