Iowa and Iowa State Resume Rivalry on Saturday
Iowa State and Iowa renew their long standing in state rivalry on Saturday. The opening kickoff is slated for 4:45 PM ET at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames. Iowa State pulled off a huge 20-17 upset win last season as a 13.0 point road underdog at Iowa City. Iowa State has won ten of the last seventeen in this annual rivalry, and is a very profitable 13-4 ATS during that stretch.
How they Fared Last Week
The Iowa Hawkeyes opened their 2015 college football campaign last Saturday with a 31-14 win over Illinois State. In doing so, they managed to cover as a 10.0 point favorite. Iowa outgained Illinois State by a wide margin of 431 to 231 total yards. Their offensive attack was very balanced, evidenced by amassing 221 yards in the air and 210 via the ground. According to college football betting odds at TheGreek.com, Iowa is a 4.0 point road favorite on Saturday while other major sportsbooks all reside at 3.5. Since the start of the 2013 season, Iowa has gone 5-1 SU&ATS as a road favorite.
Iowa State is projected by most to be once again a bottom feeder in the BIG-12 standings. That very well may be the case. However, they can temporarily enjoy beginning the season with a 31-7 win over Northern Iowa. The Cyclones also covered that contest as a 14.5 point home favorite. They received a solid performance from quarterback Sam Richardson in last Saturday’s win. Richardson was 21-29 passing for 233 yards, including 2 touchdown tosses and no interceptions.
The last four games in this series have been decided by 6 points or less. We’ll likely see a similar type result in 2015, and that certainly would favor the home underdog. I’ll have a small lean toward the Cyclones for one of my college football picks this week.
College Football Pick: Play on Iowa State +4.0 (-110) at The Greek.
