We’ll examine Saturday night’s nationally televised college football game between Stanford and Washington State. Go inside to discover our point spread college football pick.

Huge PAC-12 Showdown for Cardinal and Cougars
Washington State (5-2) will square off with #8 Stanford (6-1) in a key Pac-12 North Division battle. The opening kickoff at Martin Stadium in Pullman, Washington is slated for 10:30 PM ET and it will be aired by ESPN. Current college football odds at BetOnline have Stanford as a 10.5-point favorite. Stanford has defeated Washington State in each of the previous seven meetings, including 34-17 at home last season. The Cougars last defeated the Cardinal in 2007 during a 33-17 home win.

What’s on the Line?
This game will pit the two top teams in the Pac-12 North Division against one another. Stanford is current 4-0 in conference play and Washington State enters at 3-1. A win by Stanford would put them in the proverbial driver’s seat and an inside track to play in the Pac-12 Championship Game. Contrarily, a Cougars victory would tie them with Stanford for first place, and they would possess an all important head to head tiebreaker over the Cardinal. There’s still a lot of football left to play, but make no mistake, the result of this game will have large implications regarding the Pac-12 standings.

Cougars Quietly Moving up the Ladder
Washington State has flown under the radar a bit and has put together a nice string of impressive performances. Since being upset in their season opener as a 31-point home favorite by Portland State, the Cougars have won five of their last six games. Their only loss in that sequence came on the road against then nationally ranked California by a score of 30-24. The Cougars never trailed in that contest until California scored the go ahead touchdown with just 0:42 to play. Washington State has gone a perfect 4-0 ATS as an underdog this year, and they won three of those games outright.

Surging Cardinal
Stanford has been on a winning roll as well. Since they suffered a loss at Northwestern in their season opener, the Cardinal have 6-0 SU&ATS since that time, and their average margin of victory during that stretch was 20.8 points per game. Stanford’s defense although good, has encountered moments of weakness this season. They allowed 427 total yards to USC, 386 to Oregon State, and 506 to UCLA. Stanford has also forced just 5 turnovers in seven games this year.

Final Analysis
On paper, Stanford is clearly the better team in this matchup. However, you always have a puncher’s chance with an explosive offensive team like Washington State, especially when cast into a home underdog role. The Cougars have averaged 47.7 points and 597.3 yards of total offense during their previous the games. Those three contests all resulted in wins at Oregon, home versus Oregon State, and last Saturday at Arizona. I’ll have a strong lean toward the home underdog for one of my college football picks on Saturday.
