After years of being an afterthought bowl game always after New Year's, the GoDaddy.com contest has much better slot, which is attracting more action at sportsbooks with their posted betting odds.

College Football Pick: Georgia Southern +7.5 & 'OVER' 66
Best Lines Offered: at 5Dimes

In its beginnings, this was the Mobile Alabama Bowl in 1999 and it became the GMAC Bowl the following year. GoDaddy.com took over as title sponsor in 2011 and that remains. From 1999 to 2005 this was a pre-Christmas bowl contest before moving and it back now to its roots.

Georgia Southern (8-4 SU & ATS) earns its first bowl appearance in just its second year at the FBS level, being Sun Belt Conference champions a year ago and finishing third this season. Bowling Green is the MAC champions this season and many football handicappers and those making College Football Picks choose the Falcons frequently as they were 10-3 SU and ATS.

Here is what to look for from each team along with my free sport pick.

Georgia Southern Strengths
For the second straight year Georgia Southern led FBS football in rushing at 355.6 yards per game, utilizing their triple-option attack. Like all teams that use this, the Eagles are skilled running inside and outside and also has also led the nation in yards per carry at a hard to fathom 6.5. The two main ball carriers were Matt Breida and L.A. Ramsby, who combined for 2320 yards on the ground. Lost in the gaudy offensive numbers about coach Trent Miles club is a defense which conceded just 23.2 PPG and was 21st in total defense.

Bowling Green Strengths
The Falcons are the polar opposite of their bowl foe, finishing third in the country in passing at 376.1 yards a contest. Quarterback Matt Johnson was the MAC Offensive Player of the Year, putting up ridiculous numbers. He completed 68. percent of his passes for 4,700 yards with 43 touchdowns and only eight interceptions. His favorite target was wide receiver Roger Lewis, who caught 82 passes and scored 15 TDs. The running game did not get near the acclaim it deserved in rushing for 195 yards a contest. Bowling Green also moves at quick pace, ranked fifth in plays at over 82 snaps a game.

Georgia Southern Weaknesses
Despite averaging 34.7 PPG, if Georgia Southern falls behind, even with their tremendous running attack, they cannot generate quick scores, because they essentially have no passing offense. The Eagles average 11 attempts a game and complete less than half of them (42.6%) for just 62 YPG. On defense, they held opposing teams down significantly at 23 percent their normal yards average. Nevertheless, against the two best passing offenses they faced, they permitted 705 total yards and lost both contests.

Bowling Green Weaknesses
The offense helped cover up the 78th ranked defense which surrendered 409.5 YPG. Against opponents that stayed committed the run like Georgia Southern will, the five teams that Bowling Green took on that had at least 45 rushing attempts, they allowed 251.2 YPG. The other potential issue is losing head coach Dino Babers, who took the Syracuse head coaching job and every team handles this different and it will up to the remaining coaches to maintain normalcy.

Oddsmakers Numbers and Outcome
The College Football Odds at Heritage have Bowling Green as a 7.5-point favorite with a total of 66. Under normal circumstances, I would be all over Bowling Green, but time and again we see how hard it is for teams to maintain continuity from the end of the regular season until the bowl game.

I believe this will also be the case here the MAC champs, who will end up winning the contest, but will get by with a three or four point victory in a game that certainly has real OVER possibilities.
