The college football season moves into the middle section of October. Which games provide great betting avenues for totals? Here are three on the Saturday card for your consideration.

Maryland Terrapins vs. Ohio State Buckeyes
This is a game in which the Buckeyes will try to iron out their many issues on offense. They have Ezekiel Elliott playing as well as he can play, but nobody else is playing close to a top level. When you then realize that Maryland gained only 105 total yards against Michigan, the Terps don’t seem like to score anything more than seven points in this game. If you think Ohio State’s offense isn’t ready to explode, the score of this game should stay in the 40s (in terms of total points). Ohio State, 42-7, might be the ceiling for this game. Duke Blue Devils vs. Army Black Knights
Odds: 49.5
The big thing to note in this game is that Duke was a perfect choice for an under pick last week against Boston College. Why shouldn’t Duke be a good pick this week against Army? The Blue Devils are an under bettor’s dream. They have a very limited offense, one which hasn’t thrown for over 200 yards in any of its last three games. Duke rushed for only 33 yards last week against Boston College. Quarterback Thomas Sirk has labored through a very difficult season. Yet, Duke is 4-1 because its defense has been so outstanding. When you exclude special-teams scores from opponents’ points scored against Duke, the Blue Devils’ defense has allowed a total of under 40 points combined in its last three games.

With Army having played its best defensive game of the season last week against Penn State, and with the Black Knights having held another ACC offense to only 17 points (Wake Forest) a little earlier in the season, this game feels like 24-17 at most, and very possibly something like 20-10 or 17-3. This is another great spot for the under.

Oklahoma Sooners vs. Texas Longhorns (In Dallas, Texas)
Odds: 60.5
It’s true that Oklahoma could run away with this game, scoring over 40 points against Texas’ inconsistent defense and making the final score something like 49-21 or 42-24. However, what a lot of people are probably underappreciating this week is that for all of the turmoil Texas is going through, the Longhorns will be fired up to play Oklahoma. It is the program’s most significant active rivalry now that the series with Texas A&M has been cast to the side. Texas upset Oklahoma two years ago as a big underdog, and the Longhorns were very competitive last year when few gave them a chance of winning. If the same thing happens this year – with Texas giving OU more of a fight than anticipated – it will probably mean that the Longhorns’ defense will have had some success containing Oklahoma’s offense. You could say, with some legitimacy, that Texas’ offense might rise up and play great in this game. There’s a chance that a surprisingly good performance by the Longhorns will be powered by their offense and not their defense. However, that’s not the high-percentage bet. Texas could no nothing against TCU’s injury-plagued defense last week. The Longhorns are only going to be able to do so much. IF they’re good on defense, they can keep this game competitive. Therefore, the under is the better choice for your College Football Picks.
