The biggest college football moves of the past 24 hours. Always a lot of jostling off the opening line as bookmakers try to find the right number for their college football odds.
151 Georgia/152 Florida- Seeing some sharp money showing up for Georgia +3. Wiseguys are being judicious in what they lay, ordinarily it has been slightly more than the standard -110. Many Georgia fans have made this game a referendum on head coach Mark Richt’s future with the team. There is definitely some jealousy toward Florida who appears to have made a great hire in former Colorado State head coach Jim McElwain. McElwain has taken over a talented, but disappointing, team and turned them into immediate SEC East contenders. Big results have been expected by Georgia during Richt’s tenure but they always fall short at some point and quash the aspirations of Bulldog fans. Much of the same was expected this year, but instead it looks like Florida has grabbed the mantle and is much more likely headed to the SEC championship game. In this week’s press conference Richt himself has made it sound like Georgia is his job, not his life. He also said there is still a lot to be written about concerning this season, and he’s right. But a positive spin on the season must start here. Some wiseguys think it will.
153 USC/154 California- Wiseguys came in early and took Cal +6.5 and +6. The public came back on USC pushing it up to -6 again in a lot of spots. There is still some -5.5 around, but not much. The public will be all over USC this week after they came in strong on Utah last week and were blasted out of the water. I thought the wiseguys moved too early on this game. I’m pretty sure Cal +7 will be available at some point, or would have had they not showed their hand early.
167 Vanderbilt/168 Houston- Wiseguys took Vandy +14, +13.5 and +13. Followers took it all the way down to +11.5. Houston bettors, mostly public, came back in on the Cougars -11. Houston is now either -11.5 or -12.
185 Florida International/186 Florida Atlantic- Sharp money showed up on FAU +3. FIU now -2 or -2.5. The public is still on FAU, so don’t be surprised to see this one go back up at some point.
195 Idaho/ 196 New Mexico State- How bad is New Mexico State that Idaho is a road favorite against you? Meanwhile the sharp money has come in on Idaho, rubbing salt in the wounds. Idaho now up to -5.5 and -6. It was as low as -4.5 yesterday.
