The Georgia Tech Yellowjackets and Miami Hurricanes clash in an ACC battle on Saturday with kickoff scheduled for 3:30 PM ET. Let's review the teams for our college football picks.
According to current college football betting odds the home team Hurricanes are a 5.0-point favorite and the total is 55.5. Miami is 4-0 SU&ATS in their last 4 meetings with Georgia Tech with the average margin of victory 16.0 points per game.
The Hurricanes Are Back!
The Miami Hurricanes football program is back on solid footing under the guidance of head coach Al Golden. In spite of NCAA investigations and turmoil surrounding the program which Golden inherited when taking over, he’s been able to instill a sense of stability, and his team has responded. The Hurricanes enter Saturday’s ACC matchup 4-0 and ranked 14th in both major polls. They’ve outscored their first 4 opponents by an average of 32.7 points per game. Last week they went on the road and hammered South Florida 49-21 easily covering as a 17.5-point favorite for our college football picks. The Canes will be playing in their ACC opener with the first 4-games of the season all coming versus non-conference opponents.
Yellowjackets Look to Sting Back!
Georgia Tech enters Saturday’s contest with a 3-1 record and comes off their first loss of the season. Last week the Yellowjackets were upset at home as a 7.0-point favorite by Virginia Tech. Unlike the Hurricanes this will be their 4th ACC game already this season for the visitors. A common theme since Paul Johnson became head coach has been that they’ve been one of the best rushing attacks in the country. This season is no different as they’re averaging 291.2 yards per game on the ground which is currently good for 10th best in the country. The defense has been outstanding in 2013. The stop unit is 9th nationally in both total defense and points per game allowed (12.8). Georgia Tech is 9-1 SU&ATS in their last 10 conference games as a favorite or underdog of 7.5 or less following a SU&ATS loss.
The swagger is back at Miami and so is the momentum. I just don’t see the Hurricanes not coming out with a lot of fire in their ACC opener at home versus a quality football team. I look for the Canes to open up a large enough lead in the 2nd half that will remove Georgia Tech from the comfort zone and force them to go at the air much more than they’re accustomed to.

Perfect College Football Angle
Any conference home favorite of 5.5 or less, that comes off an away favorite ATS win that they covered by 9.0 or more, versus an opponent coming off a home favorite straight up loss is 10-0 SU&ATS since the start of the 1984 season. The home favorite won those 10-games by an average of 18.4 points per game.
