The Miami Hurricanes haven’t enjoyed much success against ranked opponents in recent years, but that may change against the Florida Gators Saturday. Will the favored Gators take the win, or should bettors look at the Canes' with their sports picks?

Let’s take a closer look at the College Football odds for this Sunshine State matchup at Sun Life Stadium, with the opening kickoff scheduled for 12:00 p.m. ET.

Solid opener

Florida earned a 24-6 season-opening victory over the Toledo Rockets as 23.5-point home favorites last Saturday, while going UNDER the betting total of 55.5.  The team won the statistical battle by 210 yards.

The Gators are 1-5 SUATS as road favorites of three points or less in their last six opportunities, with the UNDER going 4-1-1 in that situation.

Things are starting to come together

Miami returned 18 starters this season, which was clearly evident in its 34-6 blowout victory over the Florida Atlantic Owls as 31-point home favorites last Friday, while going UNDER the betting total of 54.5.

The Hurricanes are 7-1 SU and 8-0 ATS when the betting line is between +3 to -3, with no clear edge in terms of the betting total (4-4 Over/Under).

150 is the key number

College football handicappers need to be aware that the Gators are 13-0 when rushing for 150 or more yards under head coach Will Muschamp.

Florida held the ball for over 39 minutes of action against Toledo, as it finished with 415 yards of total offense—the type of number the unit reached just once during the 2012 campaign.

Little success against ranked opponents

There’s no doubt that this is Al Golden’s best team at Miami, but it’s important to point out that the program is 2-7 SU versus Top 25 opponents since 2010.

The Hurricanes will need a huge performance out of their defensive line to come away with a victory—a group that has more experience than any other in the Golden era in South Beach.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Hurricanes with their College Football picks, as they’ve gone 10-2 at this venue against non-conference opponents, including wins in their last four opportunities by an average of 29.8 points.
