It is the beginning of ACC action for Florida State & Boston College and as expected, the college football odds have the Seminoles as road favorites, but are they the right choice for sports picks?

This is what we will delve into for this conference encounter as a football handicapper and we realize what team can impose their will on the other is the squad most likely to be the right choice for College Football Picks.

When Florida State Has the Ball
Coach Jimbo Fisher is a quick study when it comes to quarterbacks and has a very good feel to understand their capabilities, both good and bad. He was pleased Everett Golson decided to transfer to Tallahassee because he wanted an experienced field general.

Nevertheless, he also saw right away Golson is not the best decision-maker and having to rely on him to be a consistent passer was not going to give Florida State the best chance to win. Instead, he will work with Golson to not force the ball and lean on talented running back Dalvin Cook, who is coming off 266 yard performance on 30 carries. While Fisher is saying he's comfortable with Cook having that many attempts, he knows he has to develop depth behind him, especially against a physical outfit like Boston College.

When Boston College has the Ball
The Eagles have played Maine and Howard, leaving us little to be learned on how Boston College might play in this contest. Here is what we do know, B.C. only had two returning players on offense. They settled on sophomore Darius Wade as their quarterback and have used five different running backs who have 10 or more carries, though part of this is a function of their opponents. Joe Hilliman is the starter and is a between the tackles runner, with others having more speed and explosiveness.

Coach Steve Addazio knows he has to control the game with the run and pass effectively enough to eat up the clock and score touchdowns when inside the red zone.

What the Seminoles Have to do on Defense
First-year defensive coach Brad Lawing is in charge of the defensive ends and outside linebackers for Florida State. His job in this contest is to make certain his guys do not allow Boston College to run outside the C-gaps and hold contain at all cost. If Boston College does have success running inside the tackles, he will have his guys jumping gaps to create penetration, looking to make negative plays.

If the talent-laden secondary are in position where Boston College has to throw the ball, the Noles have a big edge over the Eagles receivers.

What the Eagles Have to do on Defense
Boston College is giving up 51 yards a game, but frankly that does not say much. However, despite playing two FCS teams, allowing that few of yards and only three total points does say this unit is probably is pretty good and they came into the year with most ACC experts believing they would have one of the finest front seven's in the conference.

It is going to be physical in the trenches and this is a battle the Eagles have to win to stay in the game. If they can accomplish this and make Golson throw on third and long fairly consistently, B.C. might force turnovers, altering the College Football Betting Odds in their favor.

Oddsmakers Numbers and Outcome
WagerWeb and other sportsbooks have Florida State as 8.5-point road favorites for this Friday night ESPN telecast with the total down two points to 49.5.

While Boston College is tempting as an underdog, they have no real preparation for the speed adjustment and quickness they will have to make even if they are all fired up. Florida State's running game will not have the same success as the last couple games, but they will remain committed to it, more like the national championship team of two years ago.

Because I do not see explosive offensive athletes for the Eagles, this simplifies the Seminoles defensive game plan and Florida State will start pulling away in the second half and win by 12 or more.
