The Owls can win because…
They could be far more competent on offense than most people expect. Carl Pelini and company did a fairly decent job in their first season on the job creating a foundation. Now they could be ready for the next step. That could be a challenge for the Hurricanes to deal with.
Keep in mind that Miami’s defense was a gong show last year. They were 116th in the country and those making their college football picks aren’t exactly certain this year’s unit will be much better. This is a team that’s thin on the defensive line and has had to pick up any type of scraps they can get to serve among their front four. Florida Atlantic has a chance here to move the football, score some points and do enough to cover the spread.

The Hurricanes can win because…
Their offensive line is going to allow the Hurricanes offense to do whatever it wants. That would normally be the case since there’s such a talent gap between the players that Miami recruits for their lines of scrimmage and the players that FAU recruits for theirs, but this is particularly noticeable this year.
The Hurricanes have five starters back on their offensive line and at least a couple should be NFL caliber. This definitely should be their best front five in years. Combine that with the fact that the Hurricanes have one of the best backfield tandems in college football (with a couple more players who could be playing on Sundays) and this has the makings of a route.
With Stephen Morris and Duke Johnson orchestrating the Hurricanes attack, they should be able to call out their number.
As far as the college football odds go, it’s just a matter of whether or not the defense is improved enough and whether the offense hands them a big enough lead to cover the spread.
Outlook & NCAA Football Betting Prediction:
Miami is going to put the boots to the Owls; there’s no question about that. Florida Atlantic’s defense is going to get outmuscled and outrun all over the field. The only question is whether or not FAU’s offense can do enough damage against the Hurricanes to cover 31.5 points.
While we do expect the offense to be really good, it’s tough to trust the defense right now. Their defensive line is in flux and that doesn’t bode well considering they finished 116th in the country. Because of that, taking the points with Florida Atlantic enticing for college football picks. The Hurricanes should win comfortably but FAU will cover.NCAA Football Picks: Owls +31.5
