California Bears vs. Texas Longhorns - Saturday, September 19 at 7:30 PM ET
Reviewing the Texas/Rice game from last weekend. Jerrod Heard got the start for Texas, and while he didn’t set the offense on fire, he led the way to a 21-0 first quarter lead helped by a 32-yard touchdown pass to Armanti Foreman. However, Daje Johnson took the game over with one 85-yard punt return for a score. Johnathan Gray added a one-yard touchdown run. Rice fought back with two Samuel Stewart touchdown runs in the second, but five turnovers destroyed any hope of pulling off the win. Texas scored 21 third quarter points highlighted by a 69-yard Heard pass to John Burt. Malik Jefferson returned a fumble 26 yards for a game-breaking score. Heard completed 4-of-7 passes for 120 yards and two scores, and ran ten times for a team-high 96 yards. Tyrone Swoopes completed one of three passes for eight yards. Texas only gained 277 yards. The scoring came in bunches, but the defense and special teams helped.
Reviewing the Cal/San Diego State game from last weekend, San Diego State scored first on a 29-yard Daniel Brunskill touchdown catch, and that was it. It was all Cal the rest of the way. California scored 35 unanswered points with Jared Goff throwing three straight touchdown passes to three different receivers, highlighted by a 75-yard scoring play to Trevor Davis. Daniel Lasco ran for a three-yard touchdown and Vic Enwere took off for a 17-yarder. – Jared Goff completed 17-of-24 passes for 321 yards and three scores with a pick. Daniel Lasco ran 19 times for 123 yards and a touchdown, Trevor Davis caught three passes for 138 yards and a touchdown. The Aztecs kept making mistakes, They moved the ball, but they turned it over two times and committed 12 penalties.
It is real hard to get a gauge on the Texas Longhorns this year. The California Golden Bears seem a little more stable than the Longhorns at his point in the season. They aren't quite calling for Charlie Strong's head just yet, but it could be on the way if he does not wake up the Longhorns. It seems the sharp money came in on California as the line has moved up 5.5 points since it opened. It was 1.5 now sits at 7. This leads us to believe that it may fall in the middle of the early move here.
Its a rare non-conference game between Pac-12 and Big 12 this 3rd week. Expect points and alot of them. In the end we give the nod to a more athlethic and for now better coached Calfornia Golden Bears football team. We like them to score late in the 4th Quarter and squeak by Texas in this affair by the score of California 35 Texas 31, so back Texas to cover with your college football picks.
