Boston College vs. Clemson (-16) 7:00PM ET ESPNU
Boston College visits the Clemson Tigers in Death Valley for an ACC clash pitting the 3-3 SU BC Eagles against the 5-0 SU Clemson Tigers. Last season when these two teams faced off, Clemson squeezed out a (17-13) victory on Chestnut Hill. In the last decade, this has been a closely contested series with these teams playing each season. Only twice has the matchup been decided by more than 14 points with 6/10 games being decided by 7 or less points. That figures to make the 16 point impost a mountain for the Clemson Tigers to overcome today.

Much like last year, Clemson was expected to challenge for ACC superiority. This year, they needed to overcome only 3 RS to the defensive side of the ball. Remember, that last year’s unit was nationally ranked, allowing just 17 PPG, 261 YPG and only 104/3 overland. After the undefeated 5 game start to the season, the Tigers have responded admirably to numbers similar to last year’s superior defense. Today, however, they are in a negative situation. For this game has letdown written all over it. They faced Notre Dame on this field two Saturday nights ago on ESPN Game Day, an emotionally draining (24-22) loss, in which they stopped the Irish from tying the game with a last second 2 point conversion.)  Last week, they rebounded with a strong performance in a dominating (43-24) victory over Georgia Tech, a team who had controlled them overland in the previous 4 seasons. Today, they face yet another Herculean task of covering a double-digit number against one of the best defenses in the land.

Boston College, under 3rd year HC Addazio, has become one of the best defensive teams in the country. With the blue collar work ethic established by Addazio, the Eagles have recorded consecutive winning seasons and Bowl appearances. Last year, they ran for 255/5.2, while their defense allowed just 21/324, including 94/3.1 overland. This year, with players accustomed to the Addazio system in their 3rd year, the Eagles have been even more impressive. After 6 games, BC is allowing just 7 PPG, only 140 YPG and just 2.6 YPR. Overland they allow just 42/1.4. Their previous 4 games have totaled only 64 points, for an average of 16 PPG. These games include a 14-0 loss to Florida St. (one score on a fumble return for TD), a 17-14 win over N. Illinois (outgaining the respected Huskies 326-153), a 9-7 loss at Duke (in which they outgained the Devils 305-228) and a 3-0 home loss to Wake (in which they outgained the Deacons 270-142). Last week’s defeat will have the Eagles, who are 4-0 ATS recently as road dog, particularly hungry, as they failed to score in the closing seconds, when the officials allowed Wake Forest players to remain on the ground and the clock to run out.

Final Analysis
This is about as much as you can ask for in a double-digit defensive dog. With history and situation supporting the defensive status, I urge you to join me for this college football pick on a double-digit dog, where the college football odds are clearly in our favor.
