The Clemson Tigers have taken care of business against unranked opponents over the last couple years, as they prepare to hit the road against the Maryland Terrapins Saturday. Where do we believe that the best value lies for our College Football Picks this weekend?

Let’s take a closer look at the college football odds for this Atlantic Coast Conference matchup at Byrd Stadium, with the opening kickoff scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Blown out

Clemson suffered a 51-14 defeat to the Florida State Seminoles as five-point home underdogs in a nationally-televised contest last Saturday—getting out-gained by a sizable 239-yard margin.

The Tigers still rank first nationally in sacks and tackles for loss per game, which could go a long way in bouncing back against an opponent this week that can’t run the football.

Fallen into a pattern

Maryland has alternated wins and losses over its last three games after starting the 2013 campaign with a perfect 4-0 record, as it dropped a 34-10 decision to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons as 4.5-point road favorites in Week 8.

The Terrapins didn’t put forth much of an effort in their game against the Seminoles on Oct. 5, as they were handed a 63-0 defeat as 17-point road underdogs.

Out on the road

College football handicappers may expect a letdown from the Tigers after having their national title hopes dashed, but it’s important to point out that they’ve won their last six road games by an average margin of 21.2 points.

Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd is also a perfect 5-0 SU when playing on an artificial surface over the course of his career.

The Terrapins will be celebrating Homecoming in this matchup, but the Tigers have already tasted success in this situation away from home in 2013, as they captured a 49-14 blowout win over the Syracuse Orange on Oct. 5.

Maryland is also a dismal 0-5 SU and 1-4 ATS as underdogs of 10.5 to 21 points the last two-plus seasons.

I’m going to recommend that readers back up the Tigers with their college football picks, as they’ve won 14 straight games by a double-digit margin when taking on unranked opponents.
