The Clemson Tigers & Miami Hurricanes live in very different situations right now. Clemson is on top of the ACC, while Miami is locked in a desperate fight. Get our college football pick inside.

The Tigers put in a solid performance – nothing spectacular, but nothing weak – in a 34-17 victory over Boston College. The Eagles did not bring much of an offense to Clemson, but they did have a very solid defense, one which limited Florida State to only 14 points which were partly the result of Boston College’s own anemic offense. Boston College allowed only nine points to Duke in another game this season, keeping the Blue Devils out of the end zone. Scoring 34 points against Boston College’s defense represents a very good day of work for Clemson’s offense and quarterback Deshaun Watson. If that same offense shows up in this game, the Tigers will be almost impossible to beat.

Miami just beat Virginia Tech at home in a game it had to win. Head coach Al Golden is on the hot seat, and he needs a special achievement to keep his job. Winning the ACC Coastal would do that, and in order to win the Coastal, the Hurricanes need to beat Clemson here. Brad Kaaya is a very talented young quarterback, but when he has a chance to beat Florida State or Clemson or another team of particular stature, he has been unable to get the job done late in the fourth quarter. Kaaya can play two or three good quarters against anyone, but he has to play four good quarters here to lift his team over the top.

Line Moves
The line started with Clemson as a 5.5-point favorite, but those college football odds have moved up to 6.5 points for the Tigers. There is simply a lot of belief in what Clemson does and who Clemson has become. Conversely, no one trusts Miami to win a game of real significance these days. Al Golden is seen as a coach on his way out. Winning this game would stand against his body of work with the Hurricanes.

Notable Injuries
Clemson has four new injuries to report, not counting earlier injuries (from opening weekend or August camp) to receiver Mike Williams and defensive tackle D.J. Reader.

Defensive lineman Austin Bryant is questionable for this game with a shoulder injury. Defensive back Ryan Carter is questionable with a hamstring injury. Center Zach Riggs is questionable with a knee injury. Center Ryan Norton is questionable with a leg injury.

Miami has defensive lineman Demetrius Jackson listed as questionable with a foot injury. Linebacker Raphael Kirby is out for the season with a knee injury. Linebacker Marques Gayot is out indefinitely with a neck injury. Linebacker Darrion Owens is out for the season with a foot injury.

Handicapping The Game
A core principle of betting is that if you bet against a trend or two trends, you need to have convincing evidence of it. Has Miami given convincing proof that it’s ready to beat Clemson? No. Take the Tigers with your college football picks.
