The Buffalo Bulls were admirably competitive against the second-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes in week one and easily covered the college football odds, facing a spread of 34.
Buffalo Bulls @ Baylor Bears
Saturday, September 7th – 3:30 PM ET
NCAA Football Odds: Baylor -28
The Bulls can win because…
They showed quite a lot of resilience and quality this past Saturday against Ohio State. The Bulls were blasted out of the gate, 23-0, but then outplayed Ohio State over the final 40 minutes. Buffalo could have pulled within two scores of the Buckeyes on multiple occasions, but untimely penalties wiped out big plays. Buffalo showed a lot of spirit, more than a lot of pundits were probably led to expect. People making their college football picks should keep in mind that this is a program which won the Mid-American Conference championship half a decade ago under former coach Turner Gill. It once tasted the big time, but then fell back to the bottom tier in the MAC. The effort given by the Bulls against Ohio State, if replicated here against a Baylor team that isn’t nearly as good as the Buckeyes, could create a much closer game than many college football experts expect. It’s possible that a real revival is beginning to take root in Western New York with this team. The Buffalo Bills look hopeless in the NFL, but the Buffalo Bulls look like they might have a future.
The Bears can win because…
They're extremely potent and will be playing this game at home against a Buffalo team that is likely to be very tired and physically worn down. One has to realize that while Baylor gets to play each of its first two games in 2013 at home, Buffalo has to travel home from Columbus, Ohio, gain a measure of rest, and then fly across the county to the state of Texas to play another road game, this one in what is likely to be considerable heat and humidity. Playing Ohio State was an overwhelming physical challenge for the Bulls, and now they’ll have to deal with the speed of Baylor’s spread passing offense in difficult weather conditions. It is extremely likely that the long commute itself will take a lot of starch out of the Bulls, who are playing this game for a paycheck and a boost to their athletic department’s budget more than anything else. However, if the commute doesn’t fully tax the Bulls, the combination of hot weather and Baylor’s speed should leave Buffalo exhausted in the middle of the third quarter. Maybe it is true that Buffalo will compete well and be within just 10 to 14 points of Baylor at halftime. Fair enough. However, Baylor is likely to pull away from the Bulls in the final 20 minutes of the game. Buffalo probably won’t have any legs left, and that’s how Baylor is going to win big on Saturday afternoon for our NCAAF picks, in Waco, Tex.
Outlook & NCAA Football Betting Prediction:
This is just not the right situation for Buffalo. Ohio State beat up the Bulls, who do not get a bye week and must make a long commute to play in what will likely be oppressive weather against an opponent that’s playing at home for the second straight week and should display good rhythm on offense. Take Baylor minus the points with your sports picks.
