USC better get one done against Boston College, or Coak Kiffin is liable to get the can before the season is fully underway. Let's look at the betting odds lines for Boston College vs. USC.

Saturday CFB Preview-Boston College at USC

The USC Trojans and the Boston College Eagles square off at 3:00 PM ET on Saturday at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. According to the books, USC opened as a 14.5-point favorite and is currently at 13.5. My college football odds service indicates that 64% of public money has been wagered on the underdog in this contest. These two schools last met in 2009 with USC winning 24-13 and covering as a 7.0-point favorite.

On the Hot Seat

It’s well documented and certainly no secret that USC head coach Lane Kiffin is on the proverbial hot seat. The Trojans are 1-1 in 2013 and come off a home loss to Washington St. 17-14 as a -16.0-point favorite. USC was less than impressive in their season opener at Hawaii winning 30-13 and were never close to covering as a 24.5-point chalk for our college football picks. In his 4th season as the head man at USC Kiffin has a record of 26-14. That may be reason for a lot of programs to feel very good about themselves but it won’t cut it at USC where the bar is set extremely high. Since the start of the 2012 season USC has gone a dismal 3-10 ATS as a favorite and has lost 5 of those 13 contests outright. Even worse for the Tojans is when they’re a favorite of 16.0 or less since the start of last season they’re a dreadful 1-7 ATS and lost 5 of the 8 straight up.

The Toast of the Town

Boston College’s new head coach Steve Addazio has become a very popular figure with the Eagles loyalists in his short time on the job. It most definitely helps that the Eagles have won their first 2 games. However, the enthusiasm has been generated by the intangible traits that Addazio has displayed. He’s highly energetic, extremely positive, but demands and maintains a high degree of discipline. Addazio spent the last 2 seasons as the head coach at Temple which entering the millennium was one of the most difficult places to win at. The Owls went 13-11 in Addazio’s 2 seasons including a 37-15 bowl win versus Wyoming in 2011.

Fly Eagles Fly

As I alluded to in the previous paragraph Boston College opened their season by winning their first 2 games 24-14 versus Villanova and 24-10 over Wake Forest. This will be the Eagles first road game of the season. This also will be another hurdle that Steve Addazio will need to clear with the Eagles program. Last season Boston College was a pathetic 0-6 SU&ATS on the road and lost those contests by an average of 17.8 points per game.

The Angle of Probabilty

Any road underdog of 19.0 or less that comes off a home favorite ATS win in which they covered by 11.0 or more, and they’re facing an opponent coming off a home favorite of -10.0 or more straight up loss is 8-0 against the spread since the start of the 1980 season. The underdog has won 5 of those 8 games outright.
