The BYU Cougars and Boise State Broncos have both notched 3-1 spread records through their last four contests, putting up a combined 40.1 PPG. This week, both teams meet in LaVell Edwards Stadium where the Cougars have held foes to 17.8 PPG.

Cougars edge out Houston

BYU came away with a 47-46 victory in last week’s back and forth affair with the Houston Cougars, falling shy of cashing as a 10-point road favorite. Brigham Young’s Taysom Hill connected a late 11-yard touchdown to wide out Skyler Ridley, completing 29-of-44 passes for 417 yards.

Hill added a team-high 128 rushing yards, while backfield mate Jamaal Williams took in two touchdowns as part of 17 carries. Ridley finished with 90 receiving yards, while Hill and Co. moved the ball for 41 first downs in the team’s 34 minutes of possession.

BYU’s defense logged three interceptions, including linebacker Alani Fua grabbing a ‘pick’ for a second straight week. The shootout’s combined 93 points soared above the ‘total’ of 64.5 by halftime, moving the ‘Over’ to 2-0 in Brigham Young’s latest pair of matchups.

Broncos surge past Nevada

Boise State rallied in last week’s 34-17 triumph over the Nevada Wolf Pack, finishing the battle with 27 unanswered points. Broncos running back Jay Ajayi marched for three touchdowns as part of 222 yards (9.2 YPC), while he and his mates failed to collect as 23.5-point home ‘chalk.’

Boise State’s Grant Hedrick connected 18-of-21 attempts under center, while scrambling for 115 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Hedrick and Ajayi moved the chains at an 8-for-12 clip on third-down conversions, prevailing despite a sparse 23 minutes of possession.

The Broncos came away with just three penalties (25 yards), while Hedrick tossed one interception for the contest’s sole turnover. ‘Under’ backers held on to cash, with the battle’s 51 combined points dipping below the ‘total’ of 68.5.

Back the Broncos as road dogs

BYU opened a a seven-point home favorite in the college football odds, holding unchanged after mixed early wagers. Boise State quarterback Joe Southwick remains out indefinitely after missing last week’s matchup with an ankle injury.

I am adding a ticket on the Broncos to my week’s card of sports picks, taking the points in what should be a close contest.

Last year’s battle between these foes saw Boise State edge out the Cougars with a 7-6 home win, with BYU held to 100 total yards. The Broncos have cashed ATS in their last two road spots, while having a 4-1 spread record in their last five Friday night duels.

BYU’s defense has been solid at home, but could find the Broncos’ ground attack tough to stop here. The absence of Southwick on last week’s victory surged Boise State’s rushing game, with the same blueprint looking effective here as the Broncos shift to Provo.

Brigham Young is 3-8 ATS in its last 11 duels that followed a victory, while seeing its octane drop with a 1-4 spread record in contests that came after a spot of scoring more than 40 points. When making your ccollege football picks, look for the Cougars to fall short again here, while Boise State stays in cashing range down the stretch.
