See who we like for our college football picks in the Oklahoma Sooners vs. West Virginia Mountaineers matchup, which is expected to be close and the winner will remain undefeated.

Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday, October 3rd, at noon ET, at Gaylord Family- Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, Oklahoma. According to 5Dimes, Oklahoma is a 6.5 point betting favorite and the total for the game is listed at 59.5 college football odds.

Big-12 = Big Trouble
Thus far, the Big 12 has been a major test for the Mountaineers as they have been winless against Oklahoma in three matchups. West Virginia also has a very tough inter-conference schedule in the month of October and stealing a game here, which is winnable, would be huge, and  a major confidence boost.

Mountaineers Players to Watch
West Virginia quarterback, Skyler Howard, has been able to do whatever he's wanted to thus far this season. Howard has thrown for 916 yards with 9 TD and 1 INT. The problem for Howard is that he hasn't met a team the caliber of Oklahoma. The schedule has been easy for WVU and the Mountaineers have beaten up on their opponents. How will they fare against a real power house?

Howard's two main options are Wendell Smallwood (331, 4 TD's) in the backfield and Shelton Gibson (329, 4 TD) through the air. Smallwood is averaging nearly 7 yards per carry and we should see a fairly high scoring affair between two big-time offenses West Virginia has the defense to compete with most teams, but as I said before, Oklahoma is a step up.

Oklahoma Can Pile Up the Points
I mentioned the formidable seconary of WVU, but let's remember, a good receiving core can stand up to a good secondary. Take the pros for instance when Darren Sproles and the Eagles met up with Revis Island and had some success. The same goes for the college level.

Sooners Offense Is Unstoppable
Oklahoma hasn't had as easy a schedule as WVU as they defeated a top 25 ranked team in Tennessee and won 31-24. Oklahoma has been able to score at will, averaging over 40 point per game and it starts with their passing game.

I can remember several games last season where Samaje Perine (263 yards, 2 TD) was a beast, but he hasn't gotten off to a fast start. It's the passing game with quarterback Baker Mayfield that has been unstoppable as Mayfield sports a 174.2 quarterback passer rating. This due in part to 5 receivers with 137 yards or more, led by star Sterling Shepard.

A Big Senior Season
Wide Receiver, Sterling Shepard has gradually worked his way up the food chain. Last season, he just came short of 1000 yards and this season, the Sooners are expecting big things from their leader.

Thus far, Shephard has managed 286 yards and 2 TD's, which is ahead of pace in comparison to previous seasons. He'll definitely be looking to be part of the 2016 NFL Draft and is on pace to participate. Games such a matchup against West Viriginia define a player and this is definitely Shepherd's biggest game to date this season. Can he deal with WVU secondary is the big question.

I think the outcome will be right around the number, and I'm going to lean towards the total and take under the 59.5 points listed with your college football picks.
