Mississippi v. Washington (-9/55) 2:20 ET ESPN</strong></a><br /> On Saturday, December 26th, upstart S. Mississippi lines up against a young and emerging Washington team in the Heart of Dallas Bowl.  The game is scheduled for a <span data-term="goog_1944690869" tabindex="0">2:20 ET</span> kickoff as televised by ESPN.  </p> <p> </p> <p><strong>Washington Huskies</strong><br /> It was a rebuilding year in Seattle for 2nd year Washington HC Petersen.   With just 10 RS, little was expected from Petersen’s 2ndteam.  A strong 2-0 ATS finish included wins of 52-7 over Oregon St. and 45-10 over rival Washington St. in the Apple Cup.   The Huskies are rewarded with their 6th consecutive Bowl trip as a result of their vast improvement this season.  Led by 1st year QB Browning, the Huskies averaged a respectable 30 PPG and allowed just 388 YPG against a schedule of mostly PAC 12 opponents.  It was on the defensive side where the Huskies really shined, allowing just 18/350.  Going back to his days as coach of Boise St., this is the 10th consecutive season that Petersen coached teams have made it to a Bowl game.  That means that, although his players may be young, a veteran experienced Bowl coaching staff knows well how to prepare them.  </p> <p> </p> <p><strong>Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles</strong><br /> On the other side of the field is one of the biggest turnaround stories in CFB this season.  For over 20 years, ending in 2011, the S. Mississippi Golden Eagles soared to superiority on the college football landscape.  They annually recorded a winning record and played many of the Southeastern teams to the final minutes of action.  Such was the case in 2011 under then 4th year HC Fedora.  The Eagles went 12-2 SU and won a Bowl game against Nevada.  But with Fedora’s departure, the 1-year experiment that was HC Ellis Johnson resulted in a 0-12 SU, 3-9 ATS debacle.  Since that time, the Eagles program has quickly been rebuilt under 3rd year HC Todd Monken.  The Eagles have gone from 1 to 3 to this year’s 9-4 SU, 10-3 ATS season and this Bowl bid against a PAC 12 team.  S. Mississippi soared all the way to the CUSA Title Game with a finishing kick that saw them go 6-0 SU, 5-1 ATS.  A turnover fueled 45-28 loss to W. Kentucky in the CUSA Title Game will not deter them from a great performance today.   Though they do not have as good a defense as their opponent, they still allow just 24/364.  It is on the offensive end, behind QB Mullens and RBs Richard and Smith that they really excel, averaging 41/520 with an impressive 7 yards per play.  They showed their explosiveness and comeback ability, when they came back from 10 points down against ODU in the 2nd half for a (56-31) victory.  </p> <p> </p> <p><strong>Final Analysis</strong><br /> Though <a href="" target="_blank" title="Find the best price for this game">this line</a> may be a TD less than where it would have been in the beginning of the season, this vastly improved S. Mississippi team remains underrated.  I like them to challenge for this victory today.  I invite you to put the <a href="" target="_blank" title="Live College Football Odds">college football odds</a> in your favor and follow my <a href="" target="_blank" title="Don't miss our daily College Football Picks">college football pick</a> on S.
