Washington opened as a five-touchdown favorite over Idaho for Saturday’s clash at Husky Stadium, and money is flowing in on the home team. We’ve uncovered the best value play for this lopsided game. Check it out here.

Idaho Vandals (1-0 SU, 1-0 ATS)
The Vandals won their opener 20-17 over Football Championship Subdivision foes Montana State on Saturday, failing to cover the spread as 12-point favorites. Hopefully, Idaho took good notes during the matchup, since the school announced it is dropping to FCS to participate in the Big Sky Conference starting in 2018.

Its been a pretty rough trip for Idaho since joining the FBS in 1996, recording just four winning seasons overall. Head coach Paul Petrino, Bobby's brother, has been in charge since 2013, guiding the program to a 7-29 SU and 13-19-4 ATS record.

The OVER has been the moneymaker when betting on Vandal’s football during this span, going 21-11-3 overall. Petrino, an offensive guy, can usually get the unit producing, averaging 24.4 points per game during his tenure. The defense, though, has been a train wreck, allowing 488 total yards and 41.5 points per game.

Running back Aaron Duckworth (14 carries, 108 yards) helped the Vandals tally 225 rushing yards against Montana State, but the passing game was non-existent. Quarterback Matt Linehan completed only 8 passes on 22 attempts for 128 yards. He threw an interception and did not find the end zone. Bad news if hoping to hit the scoreboard against the Pac-12’s best defense last season.

No. 8 Washington Huskies (1-0 SU, 1-0 ATS)
The Huskies jumped from No. 14 to No. 8 in the AP Poll following their 48-13 home rout of Rutgers in the opener for both schools.

Washington is 32-2-2 SU all-time against Idaho, having won 34 meetings in a row. Its only two defeats occurred in 1905 and 1900, respectively—yes, prior to WW1. The two last met in 2009 in Seattle with Washington winning 42-23, but failing to cover as 20-point chalk.

The line opened at -35 in favor of the Huskies for Saturday’s clash across the College Football board, adjusting to -37 as of Thursday. Is there any chance of a monumental upset? Washington has dropped a game as 30-point chalk or more just one time, a 21-20 defeat to Pac-12 rivals Oregon State in 1985 as 35-point favorites. Since taking over the Huskies in 2014, head coach Chris Petersen is 3-0 SU, 2-1 ATS when laying 25 points or more.

Petersen knows the Vandals well, and there isn’t any love lost between the two. As part of the Boise State coaching staff, both as offensive coordinator and head, he squared off  against his former state rivals 10 times, winning each by an average 49-18 score.

Petersen’s offense is averaging 47.3 points in its last four games dating back to 2015 with now-sophomore quarterback Jake Browning and running back Myles Gaskin gaining experience. Browning tossed for 287 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception on 18 of 27 passes in the opener. Sophomore QB K.J. Carta-Samuels (2-for-2, 2 yards) also found the end zone on a goal-line pass play.

Final Analysis
The Huskies are going to score 40-plus points easily. The Vandals have played five Power Five teams since Petrino took over, allowing 59.2 points and scoring 14.2 per game on average. Reserves will get plenty of playing time for the Huskies, but don’t expect Petersen to pull his foot off the gas. He’s not overlooking his former rivals, even reaching out to his one-time UW assistant Jeff Choate, now head coach at Montana State, for information on Idaho’s game plan last weekend.
