It's a Wednesday night and there is some hot Sun Belt action to wager on in a nationally televised game. Luckily for us, one of the sides is also presenting great home underdog value.

Great College Football and NFL weekend for me as some heavy favorites were worth the chalk thrown at them by myself. There is more heavy chalk in play now, as we start the College Football week early here with a Wednesday night Sun Belt game which can be seen nationally on ESPN2. The Appalachian State Mountaineers travel to the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns for this game, as the Mountaineers have opened as high as 11-point road favorites. No total has been posted as of Sunday night.

The Mountaineers come into this game with 11 day’s rest, as they didn’t play over the weekend. They’ve won two straight games by double digits, the last one being a 17-3 smothering of Georgia State. The Mountaineers picked off Georgia State quarterback, Conner Manning, 4 times in that game, which is the worst performance of his season so far. The Mountaineers leaned on Running back Jalin Moore for most of the game as well, as he carried the ball 28 times for 149 yards and a touchdown. This is a trend for Appalachian State, Moore carried the ball 39 times for 257 yards and two touchdowns 2 weeks ago at Akron in a 45-38 road win.

Louisiana-Lafayette also comes into this game with 11 days of rest, and are 2-3 on the season with a much easier schedule than Appalachian State has had. They are coming off of 2 close overtime losses on the road at Tulane and New Mexico State, the first being a quadruple overtime game and the last game going to double overtime in a 31-37 loss to the Aggies. Being that Appalachian State lean heavily on Moore and the running game, it is interesting to note that the Ragin’ Cajuns have only allowed two 100-yard plus rushing performances in their first 5 games. This ranks Louisiana-Lafayette 16th in the country in rushing yards allowed through 5 weeks. It’s a good thing that Louisiana-Lafayette has a good defense, because their offense struggles at times and is 143rd in the nation in yards gained at 395.6 per game.

These teams met late last year as Appalachian State won 28-7 in route to their very successful 13-2 bowl season. The Appalachian State defense dominated that game, as they allowed only 42 yards rushing by the Ragin’ Cajuns in 36 attempts. But I like Louisiana-Lafayette in this spot for the same reason this year, behind their top-ranked rushing defense, to be able to keep this game relatively close at home. Take the Ragin’ Cajuns +11 points at BetOnline as a mid-week double digit home dog worth backing.
